I guess we could start with a roll call from the NBA South Pacific Nationals 1977-79. I did my very first race at the 1978 race. Anyone remember Scott Iha?? He was about 13X and holeshotted and lead trophy dash most of the way till being passed by Scott Clark.

There used to be a track in Kona, right? My Dad lives there now - are there any remanants of that track. It was by the old airport I think - anyone ever race there?
Thumperpilot

This can't be an all things Hawaiian thread without this shot!

That's right, the Hawaiian heart-throb, my boy Greg Leasure in full affect!
JohnnyJohnson OMAS DirtSlinger
Leasure,
YOU LOOK GREAT!
What happened?
HinkDog411
Johnny, let me correct your grammar......"Leasure, YOU LOOKED GREAT! What happened?"

See how that sounds better Johnny? LOL!
Thumperpilot
I just knew Johhny Johnson would surface on this thread. He's all about the hawaiian chix!
HA Y N
Guys, don't hate me cuz you ain't me. I was rocking the outside industry sponsorship before any of you even thought about it!

Was that thing smellin like stale innertube air? LOL!

ChangStar,
That pic above on the starting line.....
Think thats Jeff Kosmala (Mongoose) on the left
and David Rentfro (Torker) on the right.
Think Kevin Ridling is the Patterson racer 11N.

Notice they're running "handcut original" Haro numberplates. SICK!!!!!
Reilley1
I am PROPHYLACTICON Master of the universe!!

HA Y N
Changstar, It seems again that JJ knows more about Hawaii BMX than you!!! Next time just ask JJ directly to name who's who in photos! He's a walking BMX almanac!!

-Leasure
Thumperpilot
It was a Bus Rick not a bud. Although bud is probably why he got hit by the bus. LOL!!!!!!!
JohnnyJohnson OMAS DirtSlinger

How about some photos of Rockne Tang and John Llacuna?
Jason Chang
I am on the hunt for photo's. Glad I started this thread. Should I just use the photo's that I am ahead of llacuna? Ha ha ha. I remember a picture of Rockne beating Mike Poulson in I think "Bicycles and Dirt". I think it was the race at Magic Mountain. This gave all the locals hope to well in the mainland. I know somewhere I have a pic of Thumper and I waxing Vann Johnson. This is gona be fun. I think in that earlier photo next to Kos is local "The Bike Shop" Buddy Ikeda in Goose colors.

Changstar
Bryan_Esser
The first pic in the thread is Jeff Kosmala (23), ?, Kevin Ridling (11N), Dave Renfrow (69X).
Bryan_Esser
Guess I should have read the earlier posts...duh!

Malvert Benigno leading, then Rory, Moki, John, James.
Thumperpilot
What about Kevin Sano???

BTW, I think I might be the only guy on this board to stump Johnny Johnson. I mentioned AZ. Legend Carl "Meat" Webster and he didn't know who it was.

YES!!!!!!!

you got a good memmory, I'll check.

Changstar
Jason Chang

Kevin Sano, Talk about a cool last name. I got a trivia question.
Before Thumper and Lumpia, there was another local Hawaiian to move to AZ and make it big?
Hint:Color Control

Changstar
Jason Chang
Hint 2, he is #46

Thumperpilot
Come on Changstar, that's an easy one, Eric Philipart (spelling???)
Jason Chang
I think that was only easy for you, he he. You guys need to find him and get him to the winters cause he go's way back. I think he was racing in the 70's, I never got to know him till about 1980 but remember seeing him at the races before that.

Changstar
Jason Chang
Barry Ikeda, factory DG.
Jason Chang
Younger bro, Bo Ikeda, won the NBA South Pac nats and beat that factory Shimano kid.

JohnnyJohnson OMAS DirtSlinger
The Tang/ Poulson photo was in BMX Action.
Coverage of the 1980 NBA Grand Nationals.
I was there and got waxed in 12x.
Todd Parry was there and got a 3rd or 4th in 12 or 13 novice. LOL!
Jason Chang
You have no idea what it meant to us here to see that pic. I mean here was one of Hawaii's fastest riders in a picture beating Poulson, and we all thought that Poulson was the man.

Changstar
Panda bike owner

Changstar
Jason Chang
coming soon.
Jason Chang
Lets hear from more than the locals, I know many have come over for a race, some may have stayed a while. Some may have a good story spending time with a Hawaiian. Johnny Johnson should have some.

Changstar
HA Y N
Johnny has never even been to Hawaii, he's a moke!
He just like the Asian gals!
