I know many of you guys know Ken personally so I wanted to make sure both the racing side and the vintage side knew that Ken was injured badly at a UCI race in Boulder, NV. today. He was qualifying for the Worlds this year in Victoria, BC. The reports that I have right now are that he broke his leg in two spots. He's headed into surgery and could use some support and prayers so please keep him in your thoughts.
I'll post more as I hear details.

Must have been the day for it....one of our locals (Ian Love, a Desoto/Cowtown regular and old school guy) went down in a turn and did the exact same thing tonight..a compound tib/fib break...and what sucked was he was just practicing tonight..wasnt racing...went down in a turn and Jeff B and I almost went down on top of him...was a ugly break (they all are...)
Big thoughts and prayers out to Ken and Ian....

Ken called me back tonight. At first I thought it was Barry White with laryngitis, but it turned out to be Ken. He really sounded medicated and hurt.
We didn't have long to talk but I want to wish him well. From all of us with the University Cyclery BMX Team, we want to say, "Get Well, Ken!"
Now I must have some fun at Ken's expense. (He would want it this way)
I think the real story is that Ken is about to turn 41, and we were going to have the opportunity to race each other for the first time in Phoenix. I think really it is that he is ducking me.
Right this minute, I am much faster than Ken Pliska.
Ok, enough fun. Ken Pliska is one of my best friends on this planet and I am so sorry he is hurt this way. Get well soon buddy.

Get well Ken, if there is any thing I can do, let me know.
Ken was up racing in Canada last weekend to get some track time and get use to the UCI cadence. He was pumped for this weekends race.
Sorry it didn't work out so well Ken.

Someone said on here yesterday that BMX'ers get hurt. Thinking about how bad it is to break your leg remined me lookin at Kens little finger a few years ago when he came down on it with his bar end. Thanks for being so cool and all the help Ken.

You know, my pals keep tossing out the racing lure, and I'm just not biting. The recent collar bone stories sound just as ugly.

I had a message from Bill Ryan this morning stating Ken is out of surgery and in the ICU. Lots of pins and rods holding his leg back together. The good news is he pulled through the surgery just fine, I'm going to try giving him a call later today once I hear he's out of ICU. The surgery itself took about 2-1/2 hrs.

Just hung up the phone with Pliska. As expected he's pretty drugged up and hopes to be heading home by Wednesday. In typical Pliska fashion he said to tell everyone he's awfully light with all the titanium in his leg.
I guess he didn't get that great of a start in the main backed off as to not clip anyones back wheel at the first jump and it still happened. From what I understand he was absolutely flying and having fun on the lippy NBL track. He was talking about jumping the 2nd straight and his competition there.
Get well soon Ken!
