The best way to date a frame is to meet her dad first.....Seriously though, I asked the same question a while back for my GT. The first 3-4 serial #'s should be the month/year. For example, mine is 9841230. According to the experts on here, it is a September 1984 frame. Also if there is a "4" stamped in the center of the rear dropout, that indicates the frame is a Pro size frame.

Don't post the full numbers. Unless you want to hear: "That's my stolen bikes number." Just a word of warning.

They can get fuqued. If they saw what this looked/ looks like they wouldn't want it. Besides, lets just say theres some distinguishing features only the owner would know about.

owl...
221161 should be Feb 1982. some of the earlier GTs only used the last digit of the year.
i've seen 1983 frames that used "83" and just "3", so my guess is that must have been the transition year for how they stamped them(?).

Also, Expert frames were stamped with a 2 in the middle of the dropout. My 1982 cruiser is also stamped with a 4. I've been told that the junior/expert cruiser was stamped with a 2
