Mr. Smith
By now I've seen a variety. Some are stamped "Tuf-Neck"...some have the "bulldog" stamped on them. Some are stamped Tuf-Neck II. Some have square corners, round corners...etc...

Please school me on what years they are in respect to these differneces.

Nice info there Rob. Thanks for posting it.
That Patent is still Pending....you only need to lodge a description to make the Patent Pending claim & avoid the costly patent process.
His only claim is "The ornamental design for a bicycle handlebar clamp, as shown and described."

The other half of the description is here

Best way to judge the age of a Tuf Neck or a Pro Neck is by how many sharp edges & corners are on it
The more it looks like it wants to take chunks out of your knee , like the in the description application , the older it is.

I'm pretty sure the square ones with the Tiger sticker (?) are from ~1980.
The only exception to the age & gouge rule , is a rareish 3 bolt clamp design that looks round with less sharp edges , from memory it's a Tuf Neck 2000 (or Pro Neck 2000) & is from 1980.
If you want to try to put together a creature & shape timeline , go thru the ads in 79/80 onwards Bicycle Moto Cross Action , they were all advertised in there.

Matt has my collection of 1980 to 1984 BMXA's in his posession atm. Sorry if my references are hazy.

That rounded corner thing was dead on. We loved tuf necks as an alternative to goose necks and double clamps that cracked. then the proneck was rounded so we all wanted that style.
the original sharp edged tufneck on those short frames was a killer. plus they had a tendency to pop and creak due to the inexact aluminum pressing and stem design.
but they were better than the alternative at the time. IMO, hardly worth what they sell for on ebay, unless you've never owned one i guess?
