The right cap didn't come off so well, but it was already broken. The left is still nice, and I want to keep it that way. How do I remove it without breaking it?
pk ripped
I dont think they pop off, they screw off. What tool you'd use without marring it up, I have no idea.

i have seen very thin needle nose pliers used to take them out carefully. Takes patience though... they are pretty easy to screw up. PK Ripped is correct with them actually threading in and out of the pedal body.

Here is a pair im talking about....

Hope this helps!

New question: does anyone have a Shimano DX dustcap to replace a broken Shimano DX dustcap?

(err...no relation to above post)

ted carl makes his own dx dust caps!!!
might try asking him for one or two...

I would want a used one, it's a survivor bike and the pedals are beat.

No big deal, I'm sure one will turn up eventually, or I'll just squirt a gob of silicone in there or something.

Plus, I basically have zero dollars into the bike and I'd like to keep it that way, or really close!

on page 7 of the following thread, ted carl shows you in detail how to make your own dx dust caps for practically nothing!!!

Check the Ebay auction section on the site here for the only set of DX caps I have available, if you repopped these you would probably make a killing since most everybody has DX pedals with chewed ends...I don't want to post the Ebay auction link here because it's not the right section for "sale" items. You can use a Park Bottom Bracket cup tool to unscrew and rescrew your caps perfectly without damaging the edges.
