I am thinking about my next cruiser build and was wondering if I should go with an SE Mauler to add to my other SE bikes. The only thing I know is that this bike was the result of SE and Murray getting together. I saw a pic of Brian Henson's in the "cruiser" post and it looks beautiful. Anyone know how it rides?
Also, were the mauler frames made by Race Inc? I saw a mauler sell on ebay this week and it had a "RA55xxx" serial number that you see on Race Inc's. The mauler looks identical to a Race Inc. 24 too. Is it?
Thanks for the help.

Yes, the original Mauler was a Race Inc RA24. Bastian had more frames than he could sell so SE bought some and decalled them as SE Maulers. SE also had a short contract with Murray where Murray offered the Murray XC20 as a SE Basher and the Murray 24" cruiser as the SE Mauler. All this was in the early 80's.

Thanks Brian. You always seem to have the answers to my SE questions. So SE sold them as a F/F set too? I thought they were only sold as a complete bike under the SE Racing by Murray logo.
Anybody have an extra Mauler downtube decal they can part with? I don't think I have ever seen one listed here or on ebay.

Maulers are cool.
They are also rare as hell so finding decals may prove hard.

Ya, the Race Inc ones were framesets. Check the museum here under all cruisers. There are a couple Race Inc built Maulers there.
Contact Darren Chan. He may have a decal for you. He's Darren C here or DCBMX1 on Ebay.

Nice!
No way is that stock but it's cool.
I'd call that a 'Floval Inc' or a 'Race Flyer' - lol

I definitely need to build one of those "Race Flyers"
Maybe tan powder with blue and chrome parts. Oh yeah, some chrome LGs and a brown se padset.
Any idea what that frame weighs? It must be less than the floval.

I have a nos candy blue MAULER and a nos black BASHER. The basher is a RA7 and the MAULER is a RACE INC cruiser. I was told by Mike D that these frames were leftovers when SE took over RACE INC. So insted of selling the frames as RACE INC SE stickered the frames as SE RACING BASHERS and MAULERS. I was also told there were some SE RACING RA10 BASHERS.

I'm confused. At what point did SE "take over" Race Inc? News to me. The Maulers were RA24's that Bastian was having trouble selling, so SE took some off his hands (according to an interview with OM).
I too have a black NOS RA7 with SE Basher decals on it that I got from PK Ripped. I didn't realize there was another one floating around. Cool.
I also had never heard anything about RA10's getting decalled as Bashers, Though we are all familiar with the PK Ripper frames going to UK with Race Inc decals on them.

not so much "taken over", but mike told me once that SE ended up with a bunch of misc leftover stuff when Race Inc shut down.

Gotcha. Thanks CB
Here's my Basher. Alex found this in a bike shop out west in the mid 90's. Never had a cup in it.

Brian, Thanks for pointing me to Darren. He was able to hook me up with 1 gold downtube for 1 side so I am half way there. I think that finding one more is going to be very difficult.
Anybody out there with 1/2 a gold Mauler downtube decal???? PM me please.
