I drove by a thrift store today and thought I saw a chrome BMX bike. Less than 5 minutes later, I'm on my way back to work with a Blue Max in the back of my truck (I spent much more on my lunch than the bike).

It appears to the best of my knowledge to be an 83, all complete, with "some" nice parts. There is no front gusset and it's a looptail. All of the decals are good to excellent condition including the BMX Products stickers. It has the top bar pad but not the cover or any part of the crossbar pad. A light clean-up and it will be sweet.

Most of the ones that I have seen I would guess to be much older than this one. What was the time range for these bikes?

Any other info would be appreciated as well.

Same thing as a Goose Californian isn't it? Sold at military BXes

In 83 they made a chrome loop tail looks like a californian but with a gussett with iron cross in it- they were sold at the military bases. does camp leonard wood have a px. or bx?

I gave my camera away to a deserving VBMX member (Thanks again for all your help Mark74OldSchool!) and I've not yet replaced it. I'll get a new one this weekend and post pics.

No gusset on this one but it is a looptail. I'll have to check about Camp Leonard Wood. I very likely know "someone" who was there in that time period. The bike is a little "new" for my focus at the moment.

Here's what I've seen so far: Mongoose gear, tange bb, Hubs have a little crown logo with a KK inside the logo, Lee Chi levers and calipers, Kin Lin (?) rims, SR stem, Blue Viscount Aero saddle, blue gumwall tires with no markings that I can see. I just got it home but I'm a whipped pup headed for bed. More details and pics this weekend...

they then made one around 1984 with no gussett maybe 1985

Thanks....when are you coming up for the Whisler burgers?

I have a white one like that, steel rims, Taiwan frame, Taiwan parts. It was at a thrift store for $10, I couldn't just let it sit. I think BMX Prod. threw Blue Max stickers on stuff whenever the had someone want bikes outside of the normal LBS network.

sounds like you got a awesome score, especially since it came with one of the pads which are hard to track down. I think the approximate timeline that the blue max's were in production was from around 1981-1986. the latest year model ive seen was a 1986 but I am not positive if that was the final year they were made or not. what are your plans for the bike?

heres my 84:

I do also have a gussetted 1983 model that looks alot like waza's. but I dont have a picture of it currently. the gussetted models did continue into a good portion of 83 before switching to the non gussetted model sometime around mid 83.

To further what RandyS said, back in the early 80s our local Otasco Store carried them.

I dunno robot when the next time is I will be up there, may not be till rockford in june. guthrie is in a few weeks but OK is as far north as I will probably go that trip. june will came upon us quickly, it always does.

Ok...mine looks just like KDW's "the day I got it" pic but with the decals. "Probably" an 84 then. The top bar pad is missing the cover, I just have the blue padding.

PQ - What's up in Guthrie? My younger brother lives in Norman. I looked in the gatherings section and didn't see anything.

Thanks for the info everyone!
