Hi all,
I'm setting off on rebuilding my old PK Ripper, and have a few headset questions for those with technical knowledge of them.
BITD, the headset was one of the few things I didn't try to spend money on to get the best. I used the cheapest chrome POS I could find, because I didn't think any headset could really offer "performance" benefit... except possibly weight. I just lubed 'em up w/ saltwaterproof grease, slapped a headlock on it, and rode.
I'm doing the rebuild basically "as I rode it in '84"... but this is the one place I'd like to upgrade, or at least do something different... here's what I'm looking for in order of importance:
1. Black
2. Low stack height
3. light weight
4. Sealed (not crucial at all)
Should I just get a black steel thing and be done with it, or look for an alloy sealed/non sealed thing? I must confess, I don't even know exactly how those go together, and it seems like alloy/sealed and "low stack height" are mutually exclusive from what I'm seeing.
Enlighten me. I remember some brand names like Hatta and Tange for "nicer" headsets I didn't pay much attention to, but that's about it.
Thanks!
