Let's see some Rampars !!

dont see to many of them around here, but those were the 1st BMX bikes I remember bitd. My best friend had a red Rampar w/ yellow Tuffs, a double clamp stem, and those cool yellow Rampar pads, especially the gooseneck "R pad" back in 78-79, it was the coolest bike in the hood. A couple of years later he got a Chrome Rampar w/ Black Tuffs, and that was just as cool, but that red/ yellow bike was one of the nicest looking bikes ever imho...

I've always had a soft spot for dem Rampars ever since, so I'd luv to see some pics of what you guys got !!

Someone had a pic awhile back of a Race Inc built Rampar. Can someone post a pic of that by chance?
Capt. Nemo
No pics, but a friend of mine had a sweet lookin' gold annodized Rampar, with I believe red parts.

I do remember the paint not being very durable, and the gold flaking off with chrome underneath.

Wasn't the Miata 20" the same as the Rampar? Probably 1977-78-ish?

I found the pics that I was thinking of. These were posted by Pat Quinn and Burbbully originally.

the gold frame w/ red parts was an r10 sc, super chrome, chrome plating w/ acrylic over it. the finish peeled as soon as it came out of the shop. that race inc of burbully's is a race inc, the bastian rampar didnt have serials on it.

Brian, Is there anything that you do not have???
COASTY
I've always loved those R11XL's. I want one. I don't know what it is but I really like them.

gregnh, Don't want to argue but you are definately wrong. This particular frame was only ever marketed as a Rampar and a Laguna. This frame is bigger than a RA8 but smaller than a RA7. You are right about them not having serial numbers usually and it is weird that this one does, but all that means is that Bastian grabbed a dropout with a serial number. If you know anything about Race Inc and Bill Bastian, you know that there is no such word as "never" with him. He had numerous versions of the same frame. RA7 with FMF dropouts, RA7 with Foiler top tubes, RA7 with the long FMF seat stay gussett, RA8 with FMF front gussett. You get the point. Check the other thread I have started. We just found a Race Inc RA9 with a PK serial number and a Euro BB. If you read the original thread on Burbully's frame, I believe that he states that you can see where the Rampar decals were. I no longer have it, but I too had a blue ano frame this style with a RA serial number that had original Laguna stickers on it.

Oh the list of stuff I don't have (and think I need) is very long.

I had to jump in since I don't get much chance to show this one. Dave Cononentz told me this is an R9 frameset. Not sure, I got it from my boss and had it powdered candy red and added gold stuff I had laying around. Found some Raleigh tires for $10 and it was done!

My first real bmx bike was a red R11XL. When I got it I was the cool guy on my block because my bike had a real freewheel. Man I loved that bike, wish I still had it.

bringin' back the Rampar thread with a thank you to b.cal. for the great deal on an R10 and prompt shipping.

I slapped some femco's and a plate on it. done enough. love the fact that it is unrestored.

I was going to give it to our 70's Raleigh shop but when i stopped in the first thing she said about R10s was that she didn't like the rust colored ones! doh.

btw-this r10 is WAY nicer than what i started on.

b.cal
Glad you liked it Mark! Do you see what i meant by the pad snaps being a little rusted together? I'm happy to see it being used instead of being in my rafters collecting dust. You've done it well!
