Guy Mazza
I just picked up another BX200 project (thx Wagonguy) and noticed some differences between the two framesets. The 1st bike I started on, has a extra gusset, near the rear upper shock mounts. My other frame does not. In fact Ive looked at every pic I could find, and none had the extra gusset. You can see what Im talking about in the thread I started regarding build progress:

http://www.vintagebmx.com/cgi-bin/ultimate...ic;f=1;t=025370

Also the 1st frame has serial # down near BB like shown in 1st edition Owners manual. I cant find ANY serial # on the other frame, and NO signs of tampering. One more thing. My 1st bX200 has aluminum forks and the other has steel. The pics of Bill's bikes in my thread also appear to be steel?
Did Kawi have that many diffrences in production?
Thanks in advance for any help/history, and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays or,
Merry Chrihanakwanzadays!!!

Can you provide a picture of the extra gusset?

My compete BX200 has no stamped serial number, in place of that it has a Kawasaki Corp. decal on the headtube with a printed serial number:

B2-17757

My frameset has the serial stamped in on the BB gusset:

B2-17125

The BX100 has two numbers on the gusset:

B1-00172

And on the top side of the gusset:

0343

The BX200 came with either steel or aluminum fork tubes. The same for the handle bars, either steel or aluminum.

Owners manual part# B99005, dated 1975 refers to the BX100 as the "MX" and the BX200 is refered to as the "Professional MX".
All images in the catalog show the top tube decal as a simple black "Kawasaki" lettering on the top tubes.

Owners manual part# B99005A, dated Aug 1975, refers to the bikes as the "BX100-A1 Moto Series" and the "BX200-A1 Pro Series" The Pro Series specs aluminum bars and fork tubes

Both bikes were the distinctive black/white "Kawasaki" decal.

My other references arean ad slick from 4/75 and a four page flyer from 1976.

I'll check in later to post more.

I've bought and sold many over the years. I've had steel versions with front and backwards facing drop outs as well. Not uncommon for Bastian to make undocumented changes. One can assume Race Inc and Rascal were not ISO9001 compliant.

Ok Here ya go:
With Gusset & serail # @ BB:

Without gusset, cant find a #:

But has anybody EVER seen the 'Kawasaki' decals WITH refelective backing? Mine BITD did not
Bill
I was going to post earlier about the decals.

I've never seen a bike with anything but the white vinyl background.

The reflective 3M decals are a reproduction that in my opinion are incorrect.

White Vinyl/black ink are the only "correct" for that style of decal.
Guy Mazza
Are the non-reflective decals avail.? I got another set from the guy who sells them on ebay, and although these are 'Avery', not '3M' they are STILL reflective. Oh well, they look better than a bare frame, but at over 20.00 bux a pop-they should be correct. Bill, whadaya think of that gusset? Ever see another like that?
