Cool! Aren't mums (sorry "moms") the best.
Looks like it has survived time well too. You have the quad to put it on too?
John S.
Yea Coasty I'll try the picture again. I put it on ebay about a year ago, it did'nt reach my reserve so I kept it. Now it's back to the way I got in 1980. Thanks mom for keeping even the old tires and rims....I also have the z rims and brakes from when I last rode her in 82ish.

cool deal and a sweet ride!! So what about the hot wheels case?? Any cars in there? the case is cool too!
Kurt.
Aaaah the 80's. They just don't make vinyl like that anymore...
John S.
Bmx2112, yep there were cars in the case, mostly rusted, falling apart. But there was one that I never open because I thought the color was ugly

Now I love that color, very much

The WAL-MART Girls from my pals upcoming music video debuting at the Independence Bowl Dec.28

Sweet! Thats a 73 Swingin' Wing in rare fluorecent pink, designed by Ira Gilford in 1970.
John S.
Yea...The race girls in rare fluorecent pink too, designed by God in 1986............

Great bike man

Yeah, would better pics be a possibility? That looks real nice. The bike is rad of course, we'll get to that, but what's her name...

Seriously better pics of that bike! Also would be cool to know serial#, gusset behind bb?, un/stamped forks?
John S.
Better pics, well more pics is that better? It's an early chromo quad, I got it used in 1980. It came from California and I got it at a Schwinn shop in Phoenix. It was a little over $200. The sn# is in the 1180's and the forks are unstamped I believe. Early cycle pro. Also the front hub is shimano with a DG stamped on it.

and the forks

The Quad is beautiful. What's the story with the number plate, though? Looks like it's made out of floppy canvas...
John S.

Some of my early family whips

1) First BMX mobile Schwinn Scrambler 36-36
2) Bro's hand me down green sting ray
3) bros bmx department store crap wagon
4) amf crappy moped (but it was cool)
5) clownmobile (hard for a six year old to roll
smoothly but it helped pick up chicks)
John S.
The plate was a Gates plate. When you crashed violently like I did, the floppier the better. I still have a couple of the broken plates.......Memories
I had the typical plastic crapo on the scrambler above and a couple of zeronines, always with a nine.
John S.

The face plate was like a giant sticker. I was probally the only one who bought one. I liked it because it gave me a psychological edge....It also had velcro which in the late 70's and early 80's was space age technology stuff..
vrobb3
kinda looks like the front wheel matches the plate
John S.
Sorry vrobb3.....there is no air in the tire, but the rim is staight. Also I have the rim lightly on, I have a set of z-rims that I used in 82 with new tires so I can ride it once in a while. The tire is an old carlile aggressor mx, I don't want to snap the bead on it. Combine that with my crappy picture skills and.....The plate may not be historical but it's real, that's why it's there.

Actually, if you don't like it, go look in your crib at your own early quad that you rode with pride when you were a kid. Better yet, help the economy and go buy one, make it nice and shiney, don't forget to use a bunch of parts that we never had or could pay for, put it on the wall, and call it a "show" bike. Then you could sell it to Fridays........err or go on the bay and wait for the next redline repop since the frames look alike, err murray or huffy or whatever piece of crap that farmlady was selling and roll proud with your homeys...

Be careful, Santa's list may not be done

* no offense to alot of members whose show bikes are really cool or anybody whose wallet expanded by selling out to the man. I sell out to the man once in a while...and rode a huffy as you can see by the earlier photo...
John S.
I was just roasting your chestnuts on an open fire vrobb3.......

Have a nice holiday, man...........
vrobb3
woa dude.........thought you might of crashed it violently...like your above post said...not at all dissing the ride
BRIAN HAYS
John S., We all tend to joke around here. No need to flip out. Your bike is extremely cool. Glad you still have it and even ride it. Super clean bike.
BMX2112
He's very defencive LOL! somebody roll him a Rollo candy.
John S.
I was just kidding man. I hardley ever post but I read alot. Lately noticed some flipping out. Just wanted to poke a little jab at what I've been reading. I really was kidding. I was told once by a famous musician that there are no ha ha's in print. I've noticed some mean things lately and that's not what life is all about.

As Sgt. Hulka once said, "Lighten up Francis."

vrobb3 I did'nt wreck on the quad very often, but I did mow through plates. I remember trying the famous "off the roof into the pool" photo once on a piece of crap bike we made especially for the feat. That was a little ugly for a couple of our guys, last one missed the pool and hit the edge......ouch

Thanks Brian, it's cool that you cared to try talk me off the ledge. Sorry for the false alarm man.
BRIAN HAYS
Ahhhh, I get it. Sometime's humor is hard to relay on the internet.
