I would like to get a Layback seatpost for my Schwinn Mag Scrambler. The currentt is a 13/16. Anyone know of layback post that will work. Most I've seen are 7/8 or larger. ANY ideas? Thanks.

Pro neck made a 13/16" layback post. They pop up on the bay every once in a while.

Did they make a reinforced version? Thanks.

The Pro Neck 13/16" post I have has no reinforcement. I don't think I have ever seen a 13/16" version with one.

That's not a bad idea!

All right here is where I'm at so far. Took the seat post out of my Schwinn SX 100. Inverted it. Heated and bent it to what looked pretty close to a pic I had of another layback style post. Added the reinforcement bar and primered. The top where the seat used to mount is now the bottom to allow mounting of a new seat. I will still need to ad a shim to mount my new velo seat I believe.

I've always been kind of curious about reinforcing laid back posts this way. What is the exact purpose other than maybe a freestyle handle of sorts?
Don't laidbacks always tend to bend directly where they meet the frame? seems like an internal tubing at the point of pressure would be most efficient?

You know I was thinking the same thing. The outside reinforcement is to stop the curved area of the post from bending further. With this said it then puts further down force at the point where the post enters the frame. I was thinking some internal bracing may be needed. How about cutting the now bottom of my post to the point where the old seat mounted to give myself a larger opening to work through. Then finding some sort of solid metal rod to insert and then tack into place? Any ideas. Maybe aluminum? Steel? Wood? This is getting fun. I feel like I'm on American Chopper. (LOL)

Now bear with me as I'm pretending to think like my dad who came up with reinforcements on our bikes (the era when maybe 1 kid had an ashtabula and the rest of us had whatever)
take one of those old heavy aluminum fluted posts that were much thinner than a standard post. file it down to fit snuggly inside your post so it is placed around the top of the frame? it'd have to be held in place with a set screw, i suppose?
I miss that old "jury rigging on bikes" era......

Just got done cutting off the old seat mounting area. Using a tape measure the inside diameter appears to be 9/16. Gonna eat some lunch and then head to Home Depot to see what I can find. Once inserted I will either tack weld it at the bottom or the old JB weld might work if it is snug enough.

This just may be the strongest seatpost in recorded history--
