I think its even cooler that the O in Oakley is the chainwheel type, not the regular O script. Very cool!!!

I think the logo is diferrent than the early grips. I'd prefer Oakley 2's.

I like the oury's still look the same as BITD. I used them then and still use them today. Probably because all my yamahas came with them.

That "O" is not a chain wheel it's a knobby tire kicking up dirt!! Real moto X YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I can use the pair I've been saving. Pretty cool grips I wonder if they are old stock used to judge interest at the show???

We need these grips to go back into production!

That logo is from the MX grips and BMX had the plain Oakley. Was at Interbike and this was a display case of the history of Oakley products, including the original grips.
There was no word of reproducing these grips at the show.

Oh man...I want some retro Oakley grips! I loved Oakleys...I think they lost their soul when they stopped making grips...

It's an original Oakley 1 grip from 77' or 78'.
If you saw the other side, you could tell.
I took a pic of it too at Interbike.
The case showcased a few of Oakley's original products.

If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty positive that was the Original logo
that was printed on the grip
Here's the pic I took at Interbike

the logo on those grips is the early (original) logo. they later changed them to the later (standard) Oakley logo. the same font like you see on the gloves in the above pic. MX or BMX made no diff' I have a set like those on my Susuki GVX-1

You know, I saw that pic in Ride UK as well, but I decided that Oakley was just showing their "heritage' with that little display. There was nothing in the mag that I read that said anything about a re-production, I think they were just referring to it as a "retrogrip". I could be wrong. TIM hopes that I am.

It's just a display.
Pity they didn't have their entire grip line up there.

Who says it was a reproduction?
My understanding is it is a very well kept original.
My friend is a rep for Oakley. I'll find out.

That's all that is - a display showing the roots of Oakley. They'll never make grips again, there's not enough profit margin on them.
Word was (from Go-Ride.com's Oakley rep in 2002 or so) that the grip molds were mothballed but did still exist, and he told me of seeing a whole pallet of NIB grips in a dusty unused corner of the warehouse. I told him I'd like to get my hands on a few pairs of .5's and he said he'd "see what he could do". Of course I never heard back from him...

Wow - nice line up there.
.5s are great but I think the B2 was a really nice grip to use.
All the good points of the .5 and the B1B with softer rubber (which did wear down quite fast).
O-Wings were also pretty good.
B1Bs still one of my faves.

I have seen that same display or one really close to it at an LBS that carries Oakleys. I think it actually had a few sets of grips in it. Of course I asked if it was for sale and was told yeah $20.00. All I had was 10.00 so I left it. Just kidding they said no.
I liked the way the 3's felt. They had a a picture of a 3 on Profile's website last week. Said the first person to e-mail identifying what it was would win a shirt. I got the shirt in the mail yesterday.

chronologically the .5 should be shown between the the F1 and B-1B, as they were offered up in the same time frame - but i just liked the sleeved models next to one another - and yes they (B-1Bs) disintegrated in seconds of use because the compound is so delicate - even though they are one of the hottest looking grips of that day
yeah the 3s are gaff - but they look cool on ski poles, errr - seriously though, they were def. outside the box and the 'in' thing when they were introduced in that day and age
....in conclusion, just for the sake of it - if someone does have a black set of Owings - holla - its the final puzzle piece to completing my timeline display ....

.5's were earlier than that. They came out very shortly after the 3's and well before the F1. I got my first pair in mid '81. By far my favorite grip ever. The set I put on my '81 GT 24" when I got it new still survive to this day!
