I have a profile stem on one of my TA's, and i am wondering if anyone can give me some info on it, as i dont seem to be able to find to much information myself. Are they good quality, and would they be suitable for freestyle, (wth the addition of a hollow bolt). Does anyone here use them on there bikes, and if so do they work well?, it sure looks well made.

If so, it'll be fine for freestyle use.

I would definitely not use that on a freestyle bike...get something like a freestyle pro neck or Tuf Neck.

Thanks everyone for your valued comments here on using this stem. It seems that i should not really be using this on a freestyle bike, so i guess off the bike it comes. From the comments im getting here , it seems it should really be kept in a locked safe, lol. Level with me guys, what am i sitting on here? Is it THAT rare?

Do you want to sell that stem crucial ?????? I'm in the process of restoring another Profile Champ.,.,.,.,.and that would help in the process.

The bike i found also has a set of the really really early profile cranks on it, which was a nice find. I guess the previous owner loved profile bits.

Would need an up close shot of the clamp

Dec 14 2006, 12:40 PM
OK guys, heres a shot of the clamp. Im really not sure on this one, althoguh the bike seems to have a few profile bits on it, it may be something entirely diffrent, maybe a DK. Experts on profile could you please let me know what you think?

Dec 14 2006, 02:37 PM
Could be a DK clamp.
The stem does indeed look like an early Profile stem, however someone seems to have put a Pots mod on it....
crucial
Dec 14 2006, 03:05 PM
Theres no potts mod in it, its a standard solid stem bolt, It may be just difficult to see in the picture.

Dec 14 2006, 03:34 PM
I would say DK clamp.

Ya, thats looking like a DK

I looked at the thread Profile champ pro, and noted the picture of 84 profile's black champ pro. Am i right to say the seatclamp pictured there is the DK one? If so, this is diffrent to that, it does not have the ring going around the top of the donut, it is smooth all the way over the clamp. I may be wrong though.

If I remeber right the Profile ones look kinda like a Tuf Neck.

OK cruial, I THINK i found something. What you have above "might" be made buy Pro Neck. Found this on evilbay

Item number: 220061369434
Only difference is this one has threads, and yours doesnt. The seller calls it a Pro Neck Pro Kollar, headset lock.
Hope that helps.

The DK locks & seat post clamps looked the same if I remember right.

Dec 16 2006, 06:22 PM
so why does DK have the same design as the Profile?

Dec 16 2006, 07:35 PM
thats early dk seat clamp,,!!

Dec 16 2006, 10:07 PM
I think it is the first version, then came an offset version, then a 2 piece design...
Wonder if the is a chance that was a headlock first and someone has sanded the threads away?

DK seat clamps didn't have the slack slit - but the headlocks did
quite possible you have an airplane engine hose clamp --- yup thats basically where dk got the idea from, used and tapped out for they're products early on - then added sizes and began machining out they're own and as time progressed changed the look as well - early the headlocks were round like the seatclamp w/no knurl grasp to tighten and you tightened them with the allen key still in the bolt, which would eventual stress and wear the bolts -- they later switched to the hex style so you could use a wrench .... like the one above (85/6ish)
i swear by the headlocks - always have - good stuff
thats stem should fetch ya a few hundred $US - hard to say exactly, but i'd figure the $350-450 range (similar to what the ESPs fetch) but they are even more rare so, unless you tried to sell it, its all just assumption
nice find - ugly color - but damn nice find, none the less !

Hmm interesting reading! Also, interesting ideas. Yes it is a dk, but was not made by dk.

I think he may have been referring to the T/A.
Either way, a senseless comment.

It's fine frankenripper. I understand your comment. It was actually found in that way, and it seemed a shame the TA had been painted like that, it spoiled the frame a little bit. However, beggars cant be choosers, and for what i paid, im realising i just got the bargain of the century!
There was another white one with that hadn' been painted, and a beautiful chrome one too, so at least i got a couple of nice original ones to go with the slightly defaced one.

no doubt - crucial - it was afind and a half .... and i wouldn't pass the chance on it either
i was just replying to Profilers comment towards mine
i wasn't directing any knock torwards you in anyway, but there are stone throwers that like to make issues of things that aren't meant to be issues - just cause they have nothing better to do or know how to take comments in stride .... he prbably didn't even read the whole thread, but just wanted to make me look neg. in some way
i'd take her and resto her to her former glory inna heartbeat, not to mention the accessories she flaunted
p.s. profiler, its still an ugly color even the new owner thinks so
