Is that a unicycle next to the chick on the banana seat Motomag bike or is #545 pulling a trailer?

Dec 12 2006, 11:19 PM
Tinker is on the far left. He rode Two Wheelers pre Kawasaki, Pre NBA, Mongoose...
Definetly Bottema with the full on Gordy Howe Hocky Coho face mask (Middle).

Jeez, I love these old photos.
I concur that Tinker is on the outside, and the curly locks belong to Bottema.
Shouldn't there be a museum to store this stuff?

Although it looks a little like Tinker I still think it's Mike Schmidt.

Close enough all, I know the 5th person is too hard to see but:
Dan Loftus
Mike "Jaws" Schmidt
Jeff Bottema
Rob Fehd
Stu Thomsen
I'll put a new one here soon (easier).

Here's an easier one. Obviously a Dirtmaster team mate of mine:

Dude! That's Dirty Dirt! Robby "Dirt Clod" O'Hare boostin' off the first jump at Holyfield.
I got all 5 of the guys on the first page, then scrolled down and saw you already named them. The only think is that I remember Loftus always racing an age group below us, and I really don't remember him leading too many moto's with guys that good in them.
There is a funny picture of "Smily" at La Habra Cyclery. He's standing naked with only a motocross glove covering the goods. He's still smiling though!
Post more soon.

Stuart, yeah "Smiley" is Mike Schmidt. I was kind of bouncin' back to the photo on the first page of the thread.
I think the photo of Dirt Clod was taken at the end of the year race at Holyfield in Dec. '74. Richie Lee took Dirt Clod, Lund, and me to that race. We had a full squad of Dirtmaster riders as you ,Ramo, and Bobby Watts were there as well.

OK Perry, here's one for you on the same day:
Let me search some photos and maybe I can give you a tougher test!

Dec 14 2006, 01:20 PM
Perry, now I will challenge your memory. Here is a winter of 1973 Escape Country photo taken and given to me by Elaine Holt, pre BMX NEWS. Who is #99? I believe he raced against you in a Palms Park series when I made my only Palms Parks series in the Lund/Palfreyman class. No fair looking up old results!

Dec 15 2006, 12:01 PM
Man, those jump shots bring back memories, Motomags and big jumps, those were the days when you actually JUMPED instead of doing what guys are doing over jumps nowadays.
old school PK
Dec 15 2006, 04:32 PM
Whoa now! That shot has me even scratching my head as to who the riders are (except you up front). I don't remember too many guys from OC that came up to Palms except for Stuart and Bobby Watts, you, and Breithaupt came up a few times. The only guy I would even think it could be is Rick Collins, but he was mostly a local up in the west LA area.
I do know who #51 is
If I'm wrong on Rick Collins give me another hint. That may do it.

Okay, I hate to flog a dead horse, or a dead one-legged dude on a unicycle, but if you look behind the wheel of 888 in the first photo, there's another rear wheel. And for the life of me, I can't find the front half of the bike in between the guys.
There has to be 6 dudes in that photo, not 5.
Sodbuster
Dec 15 2006, 08:12 PM
I see the front wheel for the unicycle. Look through the rear wheel spokes of the front two bikes. Hidden by #888 but to the right of Bottema But the rider still must be a one legged man. Because that moto looks like an A** kickin' contest to me!!

OK Brian, I've thought about it and there is a name that pops up in my head. Is it Charlie Piscopo? I seem to remember a guy with a name like that racing a series at Palms, and it may have been your teammate. And if it is I swear I didn't look up old race results. And I probably have them to look up!
If not then I give up. Unless you want to give another hint.

Marvin, Jack Scagnetti and Thom

Dec 20 2006, 07:35 PM
Well, you guys got two right, but #3 is not Jack Scagnetti. I'll give you a hint. #3 is in a photo with John George, David, Encinas and he gets mistaken in that photo for being Ramo (#100 plate). He was a pretty fast NBA local, but after 1975 (when this photo was taken) he kind a phazed out.
Now look at the dude with the camera around his neck spectating. Looks like the OM to me.
Extra points to who gets the track it's at, and which version.
