Wow, number plates and all, foot down, roosting action, Beaver Cleaver style. Where's June Cleaver? She was the ultimate "pit tootsie".

Right there, right that second, BMX was born!"
This might need changing!!

I always thought that the concept that BMX was "born" in any one time or place was ridiculous anyway.
My Dad used to tell me when I was a kid "Ya know, you BMX guys aren't doing anything new".
My Dad told me how him and some other kids had a dirt go-kart track on the property when they were kids in the 50's, that their Dad's had made for them. But, they were only allowed to ue the go-karts when the adults were around. So, when the Dad's weren't there, they would race thier bicycles on the dirt track!

This kind of makes sense. Didn't MX start over in Europe a couple of decades before it reached the US?
We used to race around and jump using stripped-down English Racers in about '64 or so. We didn't call it "BMX," but rather "racing around on our bikes."
We were wordier back then, and the abbreviation hadn't been invented yet.
We didn't have number plates, 'cause were were poor. We tried making some out of stone tablets, but holding those up while riding with one hand was a huge hassle so we quit.
But I'm serious about the English Racer thing.

I found this quite interesting,

I was 9 DAYS old when "BMX was born" (according to the quote).
Oh, sorry, did I make anyone besides Reilley feel old?

You were born after the Summer of Love, days before Woodstock, having missed the Tet Offensive, the Six-Day War, and the Kennedy assassination. You missed the mini-skirt fad, and The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, as well as Elvis's comeback TV special. And other stuff, all of which you missed.
Dude, you missed some amazing times.

E- so did many of those that were around for those things!
You forgot the first Moon-walk, by the way.
Really, there wasn't much I could do about it, I didn't have much say in the matter.
On the same note, my 8 year old son missed out on Disco, hippies, Reagan getting shot (and believe me, with my name, I have heard quite a bit about that through the years! "Jon Hinkle", kinda close to "John Hinckley, Jr."), The Cold War, etc. But I'm sure he'll be fine with missing those things.

You know, Elvis took all of the fun out of my trying to get you back Rick!
Obviously, at 37, I'm not a spring chicken (whatever that means). I just thought I'd take a jab at you Rick, but I guess I need to respect my elders(!), huh?
As for the Queen of Pop, it has nothing to do with her/him/whatever it is now. But that kind of proves my statement of some of you who WERE around then missing some other important events of that time!

Back in the old days I always rooted for Team "Bird". But Team "Upper Case M" was also a favorite as well.

Did you see that thread in racing awhile back? Apparently they're still doing that sort of thing, which amounts to Speedway-bike racing on, er, bikes. That's what appears to be going on in your picture. It looks like fun.
Speaking of which, in the day's of teh Elvis "English Racer" would always have a three-speed rear hub.

Awwww.......don't feel bad E, in the words of your good friend Vintage G...."I ain't mad atcha!"
Rick got me good in another thread, I was just trying (emphasis on TRYING to get one in on him).
It's all good (which means, in young people's speak, everything is fine, how are you?).
All in good fun Alex, all in good fun.
