Just getting a little keen to find black kashimax aero (I have NOS blue one, and I'm thinking about dyeing it).

However my question is, has anyone stripped the brown or black leather off one of the factory leather seats? Wondering if you were to pull it off, would you just have a standard black aero (what I'm after)?
AndyDiamond
I had a silver leather (vinyl) Kashi areo that was worse for wear.

I stripped off the padding to reveal a black seat.

They do not have the two holes in the top of the seat and no logo on the sides of the seat.

It was a bit of a bugger to strip the foam off as it's well stuck on.

Hmm.... I have a black Kashimax Aero, that used to reside on my 82 GT 24.... In brand new condition, as the 24 way/is ridden very little. I've got an Elina on it now

I *might* be convinced to part with it, as at the moment, it doesn't have a build to go on.

I need to find it, as it is in storage atm.

Thanks guys...that is the great part about this forum, you don't have to wonder how it will turn out because someone has normally done it before you!

Interesting to see the leather stripped and it surprises me how many of these are still available, especially when I don't recall ever seeing them BITD. Anyone know the history of them ie when they were produced...

The reason you dont recall ever seeing them is largely that nobody cared about suede and leather seats back then as kids, especially mid 80's. Percieved as rarities, people throw them on exotic builds all the time nowadays, but I think they actually detract from bikes and make them often look overbuilt. Gotta match your other brown parts on a certain expensive BMX brand.

All leather and suede Kashi's are currently stored in a huge secret underground vault that runs between Singapore and Hong Kong.

If given the choice I guess I'll take stripping.

I agree with you, I'm not a fan of them. My acception to the rule is the harry leary turbo with the stock suede kashimax, but other than I wouldn't put one on anything else.

I'm amazed at how many parts our friends in Hong Kong keep pulling out...The seems to be a never ending supply of Elina's and 7X rims...they must have a massive stock pile!
Kurt.
LOL pquinn. Yah - I'm with you.

I am looking for a brown suede Kasimax for a build I am doing. Any help would be great!
Randy
My '78 Team Mongoose sports a refinished Kashimax suede saddle. I had a local leathersmith do the work. I have since done one myself, easy as pie....then again, pie might be hard on you guys...

I can do pie standing on my head... (but not as demo'ed in American Pie)
mcam
mmmm.... pie......

Oh, and the reason for all the Elina's and Kashies coming out of Sinapore and Hong Kong?

Easy.... Someone has the molds.... LOL

(Thats just a joke damnit... )

Padded seats on a racing BMX post-80 were considered 'excess weight' and not cool.

They were for 10 speeds.

They might look OK on some builds but the extra few ounces is not BMX racing....

The reason BMX seats were plastic is for the weight.
You didn't sit on your seat when you raced...
mcam
You sat on your seat looking at all the girls...

Well, I did....LOL
