I looked in the museum and I think you have an 82 A frame . as far as the differences you should get ahold of Greg_Hanna on here he knows his stuff about GJS's Im sure he would be glad to help. Scott
BRIAN HAYS
Yes or ask Jeff Utterbach. He may know a little about it.

I had one just like that bitd, '82 sounds right. Btw, all the GJS forks I see seem to be chrome - does anyone know if the forks came painted too?
Jack Weingart
Maybe in blue, if these are the real deal.

Those look like the forks on my A84 very similar
BMX2112
yeah those are early GJS forks. For sale?
Jeff Utterback
Uh...

One of the members on here has a better grasp on when we did what than I do!

Seriously, there are bikes I NEVER remember building that are out there. I'll say that frame is from 79/80.

And this was well before I "experienced" things...
jeffry1970
so you did make the single gussett frame more than one year?
BRIAN HAYS
JU, I told you to say no to drugs damn it!!

Maybe JU's personal stalker, Tim will shed some light. I know his GJS is killer.
Greg_Hanna
The single tube gusset frames were built starting sometime in 1980 until sometime in 1982. The "Haro" type gusset frame was built sometime in 1982 until late in 1983. The A84 (2 tube gusset re-release) was built late 83 until sometime in 1984. The Big Tube was built late 1984 or early 1985, for a very brief time.
jeffry1970
so they made the two tube gusset, then single and then back to the two tube?
sorry for the cornusion
BMX2112
yep and the 2nd gen. brace tubes were different sizes unlike the 1st gen. which were the same size.
jeffry1970
see that JU,these guys forgot more than you remember...
just kiddin.
thanks to all for the help.
BMX2112
I have that same frame and still looking for the forks.

BMX2112, I really REALLY dig that bike.

I know nothing about GJS's (other than JU being involved ), but they look like cool bikes.

And yours is even better in classic chrome-with-blue.

Nice!
jeffry1970
i agree bmx2112 your bike is very nice.
i scored this 20" frame on craigslist.i bought a 26" replica a few years ago after seeing empi's tagerine 20"
heres my 26" replica

Greg_Hanna
BMX2112, there were a few revisions on the 1970's 2 tube A frames. The very early ones had the 2 tubes the same Dia. Both of which would have been about 1/2". A short while into production, to save weight and cost, the upper gusset tube between the top and down tube was changed to a smaller dia. The early A frames saw many revisions, most of which were tubing changes on the headtube and BB shell, they would be near impossible to notice unless you had 6 or 7 lined up.
jeffry1970
so there are actually many different variations over the years.i guess its almost impossible to ID a frame.

jeffry1970
wow, thats a really nice bike alfa.i like the black and gold.
66alfa_gtv
Thanks, Jeffry.
I had the same model when I raced in the late '70s. I wanted to make a replica of my race bike, but finding the parts proved nearly impossible. My race bike had Comp II redwalls, black/red/white Haro lightning bolt plate, CBR seat post and stem, early Robinson forks, Bullseye hubs, etc etc. My frame was a darker metallic-ish red.
That's a huge order to find all the above in the right colors.
So, I built it as you see above.
Last I heard, a collector in the midwest found my original GJS frame and restored it in blue.
BMX2112
thanks guys, My GJS is on of my fav's in my collection and I scored a set of pads for a while back that really set it off.
