Full Version: Score!? Now What is it? Champi-Torker?

But seriously. This bike has twin top tubes running from a looptail. Then it has a champion bar. Nice welds.

Has 26 inch Arayas laced to Sturmey-Archer hubs. Front is a small drum brake. Rear is a 3-speed drum brake. Has Tioga tires.

Sealed bottom bracket with SR 3-piece cranks. Sealed headset and early mtn bike bars and forks.

Appears to be original paint. The only sticker from Dutchman Bikes in Santa Cruz. Bottome bracket is stamped 1521.

Please help ID this bike so I can get some proper stickers! Thanks.

Nevere seen anything like it.

Some kind of early MTB?

Looks like a VDC 26" to me. Sweet Brooks saddle too. Nice find.
DAN
I believe that is the third one to surface and the first one as a complete. That thing is awesome. The other ones had wide spacing in the rear that pointed at it being an early MTB. None have ever been identified that I know of.

I have a built once then stripped down Champion 24" frame and fork in black that I'd trade for it. Email me if your interested.

Ya like Dan said, that is like the 3rd one I've seen on Vintage. I don't remember who made it or if anyone ever figured out who made it? I think Jamal Spelling has one? I like it! I like it a lot!

Thanks everyone.

Does anyone have the links to those previous threads?

Pretty sure that's a Worthington built by my old friend Monty Worthington out of Santa Cruz in the early to mid 80s. I haven't seen him in a few years but I'll send the pic to some of the Santa Cruz crew to verify.

Rick - I think you are right. I somewhat remember seeing something similar when we lived there. Dutchman Bikes went out of business a while back. Cool find anyhow...

Thats a sweet looking frame!!..
DAN
Worthington of Worthington Warthog fame? I remeber those did have a Champion like frame tube but the one I have seen didn't have the twin top tubes. It was also a 24/26.

Best guess so far and knowing Rick's memory I bet he's right!

There was an orange one just like that on Ebay about 2 years ago...nobody was ever able to ID it...they are pretty cool looking bikes...I would love to see one built up as a bmx cruiser just to see how it looks and rides.

I emailed Voris Dixon and here's what he said:

"Doesn't look familiar to me.
Also the numbers stamped into it are not what I usually did.
I did make some prototypes of various designs but this one does not ring a bell.
The double top tube looks more like a Torker while
the chain stay and seat stay bend at the rear dropout looks like Cook Brothers.
Sorry I can't help any more."

Just finished fixing it up....

New pics here!

Love the bike, hate the bars. Some big ol' motorcycle motocross bars would be cool on that thing. The head tube angle looks way steep on that thing. How's it ride?
tmcm99
Can't help you with the frame ID, the bars are exactly like the ones I found on a curbside early (81ish) diamond back mountain bike I found. Mostly SR Sugino components, and big ol' motocross brake levers. Cool bike, though, I'd also like to know what it is.
