I have a Standard Mini frame that was one of only 5 that Standard made. Great frame, in excellent shape. Is it worth holding on too it.
Thanks,
Dave C.

I love mini stuff. At times, it's as hard to find or even MORE hard to find certain items.
They're not as desireable as the bigger bikes because a vast majority of the collectors on VBMX were already past the age of riding minis. And I would guess that most peoples personal memories of Vintage BMX riding/racing do not deal with the early age when we would have rode minis but rather the "bigger" bikes that we had as we got older.
I like the drilled-out craziness. I like the pint-sized super-technology. I like the fanatical attention paid to weight of the parts and complete bikes. To me it's all very interesting.

That BMXA article on that uber-drilled-out mini ripper has stuck with me to this day! I also seem to remember a similar one on a custom blue-to-white fade paint job on a JMC. I have always loved the way minis look. You should totally hang on to it.

It would be considered mid to new school, what year is the Standard Mini, condition, and picture?
Can say that there were never as many mini's as standard/Pro frames. Some manufactures made more mini's than others so the collectability varies depending on era, amount made, manufacture, and condition.

Here is a copy of the email exchange I had with Standard. I do have some picture, but am unsure of how to post them.
"Yes it is really a Standard!!! We only made 5. It was built in Febuary of 2002. Hold on to that thing it is rare or make sure you get some good money for it. I get tons of calls for those frames and I have no idea where any are anymore. Kids out grow them and they keep getting traded and sold or handed down. I would love a picture if you have one.
Thanks and let me know if you have any other questions.

> Hi:
> I hoping that you give me some information on a frame that I purchased from the BMX Barn in Oldsmar, FL back in late 02/early 03. The size of the frame is a mini, TT 16.5", stickered 63 on the bottom of the BB. SN is B 02230 and it is made out of OX Platinum.
>
> My daugther loved this frame and parents would ask me all the time if that was really a Standard. Since I had never seen another one like it, I used
to joke and say it was custom made for her.

If it was your daughters bike and she loved it, then why not keep it? I can't imagine selling it knowing she was so fond of it.
Regarding the bike itself: I have NO CLUE about anything made in 2002 regardless of make or model.
Keep it because she liked it.

I know it's not Old School yet, but I know some of you out there love these things, I think it's a piece of art. I just need to find a few things for it.

I love minis.
Here is my VDC Chimp Long with its tiny down tube. My youngest son 'owns' it and rides it occasionally. I brought it to Rockford '04. The bike is soooo light.

don't know if this will be very collectible...
anything 1 of 5 has value. mini or not. in 25 years somebody's gonna say "anybody ever see a Standard mini? they only made 5."

I love the minis!!! I have always wanted on for my collection and was able to score this awhile back. It's pretty much complete just needs a few things and a good cleaning. The sew-up tires are to tall and I will be lacing in the red Arayas that are also in the pic (sew-up rims will be available to anyone interested).

Doug I started out on a mini Thruster before moving up to the Tri. I would love to have another. Oh wait, I've got a line on one if I can make the current owner realize that it would look better in my barn then his. LOL
Sweet dont remember ever seeing a mini Sting.

This is my sons Aussie made Vortex Mini. He loves it. It needs a rebuild and some cleaning up though.

Heres an earlier model of the same frame. Yet to be cleaned up.

Minis are cool. Tricked out, super light. Makes you want to be seven years old again.

I hope so , Matt & I have picked up a few complete mini's to part out & build a nice rider/racer for when his son gets a little older & bolder. We sold the lil Hole shot Huctch frame & forks recently , that leaves us with a CW mini SN is , ?? 74 (only 3 or 4 digits stamped into the rear tab) or a locally built Vortex like Coasty has posted above + a whole pile of "mini" wheels & parts...
Building mini's is kinda like building scale model trains or cars , lots of delicate , detailed work to make them look nice & weigh nothing , but lack the performance or rideability we like to have in our usual 20 & 26 inch "muscle bike" BMX builds. A 30 to 40 year old collector can't really take a featherweight mini out for a social ride , let alone a fanging , the mini CW will make for some nice wall art until it is ready for riding by his son.
It's a Medium to Long term project still.
Then again I'll try & fit a worked over 36D or Group 20 slot car engine to any scale model I build to make it more "interesting" to own & use.
Matt has plenty of experience with RC servo's & electric off road racing model cars , maybe we can fit a concealed 1 Kw+ DC motor , "3 lap" battery pack , a few servo's , a dummy child etc onto the CW mini , & race it around the BMX track.....the power to weight ratio should be sufficient , maintaining balance would be the main obstacle. Might even be fun to see the horror in parents eyes when the bike jumps & crashes badly or rides off out of control into the bush & we are there laughing at it all.
I can still be a bad influence on my little brother.

It's crunch-time for Rockford, and my plan is still to bring only 2 bikes this year: both mini's.
I'm being totally honest here: I am having more fun with the mini's than any of the 20"s or cruisers I built. There's just something about them.

On the collectibility of minis, depends kinda. That NOS Lil Holeshot would probably bring some money but a complete '80s Profile mini went for less than $200 a year or so ago. In decent shape too.

Collectable - yes, bring high prices - usually not, why - not ergonomically correct for overweight middle aged men reliving their childhood to ride. I have a 1980 Nickle NOS Mini frame made by some Patterson guy. Jason, that Hawk suspension is sweet!
