Hey. I'm not trying to stir the soup or anything here, but I met a guy named David Gattis this Sunday at the Prunedale NBL track. Apparently he's a former SE rider and started a site called
www.theomofbmx.com with the OM.
Well, he says he's got TWO STR-1's in his garage. He may very well be a member here. Does anyone know him, either currently or from BITD, and has anyone seen these mythical beasts?

He probably has. Until Stew left SE, ALL "Quads" were STR-1s, not just the "under the bb" ones.

they are regular mild steel quads, not "under the BB" downtubes.
Scot tried to pawn them off on me months ago.
and just a question.... WHY would you post here about this lead before thoroughly investigating it on the sly?

That actually had me laughing out loud, Tone. I'd write "LOL," but I am violently opposed to internet acronyms.

GOOSER! Whatever that means??? David Gattis here. Why all of sudden do my bikes become a topic when that was something I shared with you! Also, who ever thinks the bikes I have in my garage is something Scot tried to pawn off on them is mistaken! My bikes have been in my garage for many years!!!! So everybody get your stories correct. so? do the downtubes run under the bb shell on your two str-1s, David?
the reason there is skepticism is because Scot tried to sell, coincidentally, 2 "str-1s" over the summer, during the same time period you were setting up his website. now, coincidentally, you post using Scot's user name. when Scot finally showed me pictures, after asking a bunch of times, the bikes weren't "under the bb" models. plus, mike devitt has made it clear to any who ask - including me several times - that none of the "under the bb" models (only a 1/2 doz to begin with) survived. even stu did not keep one. if he's wrong, that's cool. but until someone shows he is, it would have to be assumed his "story" is correct.

No, did I ever say they did? I told him I had two STR 1's (looptail quadangles). Thats it! Assume what you may! My bikes are my bikes and just because I sign in under Scot's name doesn't mean I have Scot's bikes. I have my very own hefty collection. Another reason I signed in under his user name is because Jamie (his wife) asked me to repsond to any questions. I also know Mike personally and I would never doubt his knowledge of production runs, as I never did! Whatever! DG

not your fault. the skepticism was only that you had "under the bb" models. too many guys read or hear "STR-1" and think the "under the bb" prototype model. they skip over the fact that SE called the bike STR-1 until Stu left, which covers most of the redesigned mild steel version too.
post a couple pics of your bikes, David. that would be cool.

Cool... No worries... I will post a few as I'm finishing up a couple as we speak. Just waiting on the chrome shop (cranks). I will post a looptail ripper, looptail quad, looptail floval, a straight chainstay ripper and a baby blue reynolds quad (NOS). Have a good night! DG

Mr. Gattis,
If I may ask, what are the serial numbers of the str frames that you have?
Thank you in advance.
