Some day I will build another sidehack dude. What I would give to have our old sidehack back. Maybe this winter I will build one and be ready to race by Spring. I will need a monkey though. Bob Sieber? YOu there? Cause we all know it takes 2 to sidehack.

Oh man Mark,
You will love it dude! Hacks are so knarly and rad. I raced hacks in the 70's. I never wanted to race hacks as I had enough fun watching them and just racing my 2-wheeled bmx'er. One day my buddy lost his hack driver and conned me into being the pilot and I'm so glad he did to this day. Had some amazing times on that thing and have some amazing memories. And you know what, it's never too late to create memories. It sounds like you REALLY need to get that monkey(no pun intended) off your back and build a hack and check out some hack action. So are you interested in being the pilot or the monkey or just not sure yet? You have seen some of the sidehack threads on here havn't you? There's some really cool ones that Reilly1 and JohnnyJohnson, and others, put up. Let me know if you can't find those threads and we can bump them up for you.
Oh I just noticed you up there 'stained skin tattoo bmxer'. Cool you have those blueprints. So what are you waiting for? haha...I know unfortunately nothing is free in this world and time isn't free either. Man you guys are getting me all riled up to ride/race a sidehack. I want one now.

I still pick up old mags once in a while and drool over the hacks. It all got sparked up again when some emailed me asking if I knew where to find plans to build one.....
....now my mind has run way out of control over night.
Fortunately I have a 15 year old son that I would be duct taping to the monkey portion of the vehicle weather he likes it or not (well I know he's not gonna turn me down)
Are they still running 20" or is anyone gravitating towards 24's now?

Always being fascinated with sidehacks I was on the lookout for a bolt-on LittleJohn hack but they are few and far between and sell for way to much money. I got lucky and ran into a guy here in Northen California named Mike Melvin (mike-melvin@sbcglobal.net) who is a BMX racer and welder who builds bolt-on hacks. I bought one from him and bolted in up to a mid-80's GT Pro Model bike. Mike's hacks are well built, affordable and have a vintage look. My hack is way fun to ride and the kids in the neighborhood dig it. I even took it camping one time and flipped over the bars with my 6-year old riding as Monkey! I got skinned up but couldn't stop laughing! My racer son got a kick out of his old man crashing!
I'm thinking of running my hack at the 2007 ABA Roseville National if they run them again. The fans totally loved it and it's a great way to end up on the event DVD.
Let's here some hack stories!

As much as I love the idea, racing those on todays tracks would be real difficult. It would be fun to see and keeping the momentum would be the hardest part while sky'n over the many jumps. There are a few tracks here that could work though. Sorry to be negative, but its hard enough running a bike on the tracks today.

I am attempting to build a track in Austin that would easily allow sidehacks. Back to the basics!!!
I just moved nearer my daughters school and I am looking for a Patriot hack so I can drive her in old school fashion. I can't wait to see the parents eyes in the drop off line when I show up in a full-tilt boogie power slide with my daughter haning off the edge!!!

Cash, I think it would take an OS style track to allow a proper side hack race... I don't know.

I started racing back in 1976 (Minnesota) and we never had hack racing. How did the name Sidehack come about? Seeing those pics of the SoCal races busted tail at 40mph gives me shivers...Its all good!
Meaning: One who has a sidecar must hack the other sidecars... LOL! ???

Was fascinated with Motorcycle Sidecar racing on Wide World of Sports. When the monkey is totally hangin' off the car, 90MPH, and off the ground sometimes...I thought that was so gnarly! My next door neighbor had a sidecar and for a seven year old that was the ultimate after seeing it on TV in the early 70's.
Being into MX at that time I saw BMX come of age in '74. When I saw the "sidehacks" screamin' down tracks like Rancho, thanks Rick for the pics, thought that was my calling. Like Brad I lived in MN at the time and no luck on any tracks.
'78 was approached by a guy interested in building a downhill track after he saw it on TV. He bailed after the insurance costs or MN would have had a downhill track.
The "flat" tracks of today would require a ton of horsepower and agree the tracks are not designed for hacks.
Like pit bikes they are always fun to watch so would the sanctioning bodies allow hacks on the track anyway? If so it would be a great addition to the Vintage gathering at Rockford.
Pit bike, Vintage, and Hack races!!!!
The monkey's of today would have to be powerful runners to say the least!

mark, i think a gate could fit 6 sidehacks. if someone can make 6 24' bolt on hacks , i will help to get 6 24' cruisers together and that its time to race.

The term "sidehack" is a direct carry over from our older brother MX counterparts. it was just a natural progression for BMX. It was ment to be IMHO. And the fact that John Palfreyman jr's father (John Palfreyman sr.) was a well known motorcycle sidehack racer in his day might have had a little something to do with it. Hey, most boys want to be just like the 'ol man. Right!
the US nats at Roseville Ca had sidehacks this year. I'm sure Reilly1 and the FMF'er will be more than happy to tell you all about it.

I predict the 2007 hack races in Roseville will be even better than last year. everyone needs to come out!
