I just traded some stuff for an old school Kuwie pictured below. I would like any info about it and if you can give about the year/model. It looks like the ET frame. It has a tuff neck, CW bars, red & yellow Oakley B1B grips, Diacompe MX brakes, GT Laid back seat post and white kashimax seat, blue Diacompe mx seatpost clamp, Takagi 1 pc. cranks, MKS Graphite X pedals, and white Mike Buff Sig. Z rims. I am planning to restore and sell on EBay or I will accept an attractive offer from anyone who reads this post. It is not in bad condition but could use some TLC. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide me with. [*]IMG_0320.JPG [*] If this pic does not come thru, I will try again later. (Mycomputer is also NOS!) IMG_0320.jpg

OK, Either my computer is not capable or I am a boob. Anything is possible...

I think the mistake you're making is that the photos need to be hosted on, and linked from, a web hosting site, instead of on your computer. Try snapfish, or email me the photo(s) at david_muggleston@yahoo.com and I'll host/post them for you.

Here are the photos. You might want to ask the admins to move this thread to the Vintage BMX Talk forum; it will be more interesting over there. Nice bike, by the way.

That's a KZ1, The serial number on the BB will identify the year. Nice score.

TCL0789 is the #. It cant be an 89, can it..? so I am thinking 78??? Thanks for the input and help postin pics! Like I stated, it is for sale...I would rather do this here instead of E bay, but I am listing parts tonite. I just listed an old school Powerlite Junior cruiser.
RYAN-GT3540
Go to Jamie's site to decipher the serial #'s. I can't tell by the pic if it's a loop tail, if it is then it's a Nova, If not KZ1. http://www.dreamgate.ne.jp/kuwahara/
There's a really nice KZ1 on the homepage , Thanks Jamie!

Awesome info! It is a 1980 Tange cro mo frame. I need to get this thing cleaned up and make it shine!
Ringer
sweet, I have one in blue like that. Whats the finish like. Many scratches?
1rad dad
It has one big scratch on the right top tube toward the headset where it has rubbed against a wall or something but other than that, it looks pretty good. the stickers are in pretty good cond. also. The crome has some rust on it but it is not too bad either. The back hub needs a rebuild. Sorry for the crappy pics.. Is this something I should sell or will I regret it down the road???

If it's the money you need, go through your closet and put up all the clothes, shoes etc that don't fit that well anymore, or you haven't worn for a while. Old books, CDs, the same. But if you still have a spark for things BMX, DON'T sell the bike. Fix it up and enjoy it, whether you ride it or display it.
An option is to sell parts off it to build it to your taste.
If you do want to sell, that bike in that shape, moderate value there, it'd maybe get $200 on eBay tops. The Z rims look like they've seen some riding. (and stopping!)

Seeing that its already on eBay for $500, looks like you already made that decision
AndyDiamond
500 is a bit steep.

You'd be betetr off parting it out.

I'd agree around $200 for the frame and fork (max).

I put a really high reserve on it so dont waste your time bidding. I am just curious to what it will bring. If only 200 bucks, then I will end the auction. I was already listing late last night so I figured I would throw it on. I am trying to sell other stuff to help bring in some $. I used to race bitd (my son races nationally and $$$ goes) but I am new to the site and just catching on to the vintage scene. Are the parts hard to find and are they super expensive? (Sugino cranks, Araya wheels, ect.?) I may consider stripping, repainting, blah blah blah...

You mean you put a really high starting bid on it. Good luck. I would hope that you keep it, not enough Kuwi's around here. I bought my 81 KZ1 complete and original for under $ 300, but then poured another $$$$$ in to it.
BTW, welcome to the site.
AndyDiamond
You could make like this (this is also a Tange 1980 frame).

1rad dad
Dude, A.D., that bike just gave me the chills! GT, If you think the starting bid was high, the reserve is silly. I am gonna strip it and have a car dude that can repaint. Stickers dont seem to be too hard to find. The last thing I need right now is to blow more $$$$$ into BMX, but.... I traded my son's last nearly complete brew jr. for it but it will give me something to do this winter. I was hoping to make a quick buck but it looks like I have a new child.
RYAN-GT3540
Alright, that's it! Andy posted his, lol. Here's mine...81 Kuwahara built frame. I brought this back to life after years of sitting outside and serious rust. Keep it rad dad, you won't regret it. Real deal white decals are gonna be pretty hard to find, at least the fork and seat tube decals will be...that's why mine don't have em.
agentheinz
Your Kuwie is a nice find, so don't get my post earlier wrong---the parts on it are the basic stuff you'd find on a decent BMX from back in the day. Buff Z's are desirable, but generally have to be pretty mint. I've got a set you can still see the lettering on but it takes more than that these days. Nothing really rare, just good vintage parts. One of the better one piece cranks on there.

Hey Welcome here 1rad Dad!! Sorry you aren't going to get rich off of selling your KZ-1 but at least you are going to have some fun. It's a nice bike you have there. I love the early stickers and also the blue painted bikes. I think they look awesome with gold Suntour parts, but maybe that is me. Here is a picture of my KZ bikes for you, you can find out more about them at my Kuwhara Website if you like here. Cheers!! http://www.dreamgate.ne.jp/kuwahara/

I've changed the some components after I snapped this pic, but heres an example of another blue frame like yours:

1rad dad
Guys, those things are freakin' RAD! I like the idea about blue n gold. I have a brand new (nos) GOLD Sugino chainwheel that I can start with. My son's pimped out Crupi jr. is gonna get jealous!
Ringer
here's your blueprint, of course modify to your liking...

1rad dad
The search is on... Gotta find gold
Maplebar
Alright, I'll bite.

The day I brought it home in '82

Same bike, last year

You really should keep yours 1rad dad

I like Kuwies
1rad dad
Maplebar, that's a pretty sick ride. I am a traveling salesman and I have already started stopping off at pawn shops and thrift stores looking for more artifacts. BMX has always been a diseaze for me and as I grow older, with my 8 year old son ripping it up, it so intensifies! If I only knew what I did with my own Thruster tri power...
TOMMY2WHEEL
Don't mean to hijack, but does anybody know what this one is?
