Well it is about time too....

I have finally finished my Profile after about 2 years of procrastinating, procuring and polishing. This is my bike that I bought in 1983 (after selling my Hutch Pro Racer, cause I thought that centre bar looked cool).

The majority of parts have been mine for over 20 years. I have added some parts (Bullseyes, DX pedals)that I want back in the day and the others that had to be replaced (decals, grips, seat and tires).

The frame and forks were powdered to perfection by Roberto in Brisbane.

The handlebars, stem, cranks where rechromed. I hand polished the hubs, seat clamp, brakes, bottom bracket, headlock, headset and pedals. The pads are the originals and in great shape considering that they are 22 years old.

It is so great to have my old faithful back in it's former condition. Very satisfying! (Now I'm having to build a rider!).

I've also included my favorite photo on this very bike from bitd.

Hope you enjoy.

Cheers

Stu

Woww!! thats perfection, really gd job mate.
AndyDiamond
Mate that is freakin' awesome!

I like the radial spoking!

What sort of seat clamp and stemlock is that?

401s on a Profile eh!

Can we see a front pic with the number plate on?

PS: you are going to get a tonne of PMs from Hucth guys asking to buy that headset off you....

PPS: that is some serious air you are getting in that pic!
Marc Tardif
VERY, VERY nice. Polishing brake calipers must be a pain however. Is that a dk flex-fighter?

You're sky'ing quite good on that old school picture. Without a helmet... bad boy

Someday I'm going to restore my buddy's Profile. 1985 model. Original owner.

Thanks for all the compliments, it's just nice to finally finish the project...

They are both DK (headlock and seat clamp)...the three things I just can't source are the little DK stickers (that came on the them) and MX 125 Headset Decals....

Thanks Andy, I always had Flights, so I decided to keep it original...I post a font shot with plate soon..

Marc, polishing calipers was quite hard, but the DX pedals were murder! (especially getting that anodising off....ha ha just kidding)...and hey regarding the jump.... I had my safety pink polo on!

Just awesome !!!! Gotta love the GT pro bars and hutch stem !!! I had that combo on almost all my riders BITD !!!!
AndyDiamond
I should have recognised that seat clamp - I have one on this:

AndyDiamond
PS: I think the heasets look nicer without the decals.
84profile
that's the sticker which I had to remove to polish the DK bits...I've been trying to get my hands on those for a long time.....I also have one of that style with the off centre hole...they are nice too.
Dave Muggleston
I think you made the right decision selling the Hutch. The center bar is indeed quite cool.
rumblerdave
Damn, that might be the best looking bike I've ever seen on here... NICE build!!!
Marc Tardif
I re-created the artwork of this dk logo a few years back. You could use it to print a few decals.

I had to do the same strip and polish job to convert NOS gold DX pedals into silver ones. I stripped them myself using a household oven cleaning product (Easy Off) and then took the easy route and brought them to a polishing shop.

WOW.Very nice,and very clean.Great build.
84profile
Hey mark, I was havin' a little joke about the anodising (don't wanna start that 26 page thread again )...but there is a bit of story behind the pedals...

The original bodies were bought from Ken Pliska in a second hand condition (as he had discribed), then I bought 9/16 axles from Tasmania from DB Radpads (sorry I'm not sure of his name but I'm sure he is on here), then I got the new end caps from the UK...I spent an entire weekend on them (my g/f thought I was bonkers)....Even then I was not entirely happy so I too sent them off to polish shop were he finished up the bits I couldn't get to!

This all happened because the original NOS set I had won on ebay never showed...Anyway...I'm pretty happy with the end result....

AMAZING!!!!! I love old profiles...would love to build one and would love a cruiser f/f...

Though i am still trying to figure out what is going on in the seat clamp pic...what am i looking at????
84profile
oh yeah thanks for the dk artwork offer, I've actually got the original sticker and I actually do a bit of graphic design in my business. So I should be right...But thanks very much for the offer.
84profile
....you are looking at a close up of the caliper, seat clamp and along to the front of the bike ie the top tube to the stem...probably a bit of a wierd angle....
djbdb
im sorry...im meant the pic of the black seat clamp on the futuristic black bike...
Curt
Break out the sunglasses, that is cool. Very well done, nice attention to detail.
Brian B
Great build! What forks are on it?
84profile
Thanks Brian B. They are Profile forks that were supplied with the bike when I bought it in 84. I remember seeing them in mags (Australian ones) when they first came out...then it seems like the leading axle design came out afterwards.

I have been told by a few people they look like Robinson forks. Which they do. However they were in the box from new (in 84) with the correct Profile decals.

I have also be told that Hutch forks leading axle forks are the same as Profile lead axle forks, which they are not. As Profile forks have a GT like shoulder, where Hutch have a much rounder shoulder.

I would love to know who made what...bitd, seems as if there was a bit of cross breeding going on!!!

Velocidad, lol....didn't flog Leroy's wheels...but I thought about it a few times! Our bikes were always pretty similiar....although I haven't had radials before....
zero9pro24
That is sweet, great job.
dayride
When are you going to recreate the old school picture and post that? Great build. Top Notch.
bwl007
That's one of the best looking Profiles I've ever seen. Seriously excellent build.

Love the black frame/fork - you don't see that too often on Profiles.

Very cool!!
B. Apold
That's one of the nicest builds I've seen period. At first glance it reminds me of the black Chrome GT's.

That center bar is so F'n cool.
Keithandstef
The man polished (it looks like at least) the bottom bracket cups. DETAILS DETAILS!!! Very nice work. That bike is ugly. LOL.
84profile
Thanks guys, it sits in front of my desk in my office, helps me get though the day...and yes Keith I polished the bottom bracket and let me tell you I'm glad you noticed cause that puppy is stainless steel and took an eternity to polish the casting marks out...spilt a little blood for it too...dam sanding wheel!!

Beautiful! I love the attention to detail.
Kurt.
Hey Stu - That is absolutely awesome mate. Beautiful, beautiful job. Roberto, as always, did a great job on the powder too.
Your pedal axles would have come from Lewis (DB Rad Pads). Great guy and a bigtime DB fan.
Anyway - sensational ride mate.
Cheers Kurt
84profile
Dayride, I will be recreating that old school picture when my hyper colour t-shirt is washed and ironed.

I'm building a 80's GT Pro for a rider shortly, which I'm hanging to piece together!
84profile
Thanks Kurt....that's it Lewis...he is a great guy. The axles arrived like more or less over night and they were perfectly clean and packed (very rare when getting old stuff off the ebay). Roberto is the man when it comes to powder just perfect...
black shadow
I have one of those DK "Flex Fighter" headlock nuts NOS in the bag, it is a first gen, it still has the decal, unapplied, in the bag. I am putting it on my Andy Patterson build that should be done in the next couple of weeks, if anyone needs it, I can copy/duplicate/scan the decal for them...just let me know.
2elliot
Mate, that is off the scale... class
Mattblack
Very nice in deed.
