Todd Lyons
I know that this is the "vintage BMX" forum, but SE's new 2007 Cr-Mo Double Downtubed Quadangle Looptail frame looks very much like a Vintage BMX.

Check it: http://www.sebikes.com/2006/news.asp?id=95

I think you'll like what you see. Even you "very hard to please" types...

All I can say is WOW, WOW & Double WOW!!!
mushkow
Is it a 1 inch threaded head tube?
mushkow
And is there an exact number of these being made?
donvader
Wow!!! So cool!!!!
Todd Lyons
1-1/8 Threadless headset. And yes, there is an "exact" number being made. Each will be numbered on the inside of the rear dropouts.

How many? Limited. Very limited...

As an avid "Fuji basher" I will now publically apologise for my past rants, now Todd is on board and has done what he said he would and turned SE around, that looks sweeeet
Thanks Todd

meatpie
Can we get a pic from side on???
Scotty
supergoose
and please say something about it's weight.
pk ripped
I must applaud the efforts. I have to wonder though, why does it seem that every new school frame have to be so long. At 5'6", 21.25TT is pretty stretchy for me. I guess I'll just stick to riding this ol' clunker around...

Todd, am I seeing that right? Is that an american BB too?
old school PK
Nice rig Todd! I'll drop by in Vegas to check it out in person.

PK
jeffry1970
i wasnt too interested untill i saw the pic.i raced to my local dealer and ordereda quad and a ripper.
nice work todd.
lou
Thats very tempting. I might have to buy one of those. It`s big and roomy for 6`3" big lou.
BenOr
And only $380? Very cool Todd. Any chance you can verify if Sal is making these? You've been clsoe with the old guys.
Todd Lyons
Ben,
They are made by our peeps over in Taiwan. They're good at that stuff...
jeffry1970
Todd's bringing sexxy back!
yeah.......
BRIAN HAYS
So it's $380 for frame and $80 for chrome LG forks? Are there gonna be enough to go around or is it such a small run that the people who do get them will be sticking them on ebay for double?

Are the PK's gonna be the same$$$?
frazer
I've gotta agree with PK Ripped, 21.25" is looooong. Too long for me. I'd buy one in a split second if it wasn't so long, but I just can't ride a frame that's 21.25" Was there some sort of survey taken to see what the most desired TT length was before deciding on 21.25, and I'm just not up to speed with this weeks "cool?"
retrodave
I tried too get them too make them 21.75. I was really hoping for 22.0 on the quad. I guess it's back too racing the dingo. I will just have stick too collecting them.
Mr.BMX
Amazing to see soooo many people here praise and applaud yet another Repro-Outlet, no matter how "legit" you think it is.

There must a lot of original quad owners that feel their value has been lowered by these re-releases....not to mention the frame/fork stickers following soon too ;-)

Flooding the market doesn't seem to make oldschool 'collectible' anymore.... ;-(
supergoose
because it's an 100% spot on replica? get real ...
jeffry1970
i think it is more of a tribute than a repro much like the azusa bikes were .same look with modern day features.
it would be difficult to mistake one of these for a original.
Capt. Nemo
I LOVE it when people in many collecting communities start to cry about the decline in "value" their collections may have after a reissue or tribute of something highly collectable comes out. Whether its G.I. Joe figures, Star Wars toys, Hot Wheels, or any other collectable. I haven't seen a decline in value in any of those collectables after their respective reissues came out. If anything, it creates MORE demand because people see the reissues, and want to have the originals also.

I find that these are the same people that collect, not for the love of collecting, but to brag about how much their collection is supposedly worth.

I personally have NEVER collected anything for that reason. The poeple that buy stuff hoping things go up in value are not "collectors" but "speculators."

I couldn't CARE LESS if my looptail PK is worth $400 or 4 cents. it isn't about worth to me, it's about the fun of collecting, sooooo....

Keep those retros coming.
BRIAN HAYS
Wait a minute. His location says www.Retro-Riders.com yet he's complaining about a great retro project. Um........I'm confused.

How in the world could this (almost) 22 inch top tube frame with canti mounts and threadless forks be mistaken for a 79 looptail quad with a 17 inch (or whatever it is) top tube, caliper brake bridge and threaded forks? Get real. Does a new 2007 Mustang GT hurt the value of a 1970 Boss Mustang? I think not.
Like Capt Nemo said. I could care less if my loop Quad or loop PK's are worth $10 or $10,000. At the point where it becomes about what they are worth instead of about the joy of having the bikes........I'm done.

Well said Capt. nemo, brian hays.I dont think these will be mistaken for the originals. I dont think they will demenish the value of the first ones either.
Brian, I cant believe that you arent going to drive over too watch me spank some Ill. butt. Yea. I got a call out from someone on this board. All I can say . IT'S ON......
BRIAN HAYS
I wish I could be there. Jenn was on me about it and I'd love to see you guys but I've got previous out of town commitments that day so............ bring your Florida pansy *** up and take your beating from the Illinois guys. J/K. Hope you do great!!!
retrodave
LMFAO
JennBMXmom
What about Sunday Brian? Can't even make that? You know Dave is going to be here first thing Thursday morning and not leaving until Monday, sooo....he wants to know why you can't make at least one day!! Slacker!!! LOL J/K!!
Jenn
retrodave
Sigh. My gilfriend who just got into bmx can tell the difference between an original and a remake.
JennBMXmom
Yup!!! Way different!!! And a year ago I couldn't even tell you the difference between makes of bikes let alone models!!! These have very different features...not hard at all to tell them apart imo!!
BRIAN HAYS
Who the hell is talking about Repro-ing anything? Repros for the sake of decieving just to make money ARE wrong. This is a Retro, NOT a REPRO. HUGE difference. If someone gets duped by someone selling a repro as an original then I feel for them. Repros are made and sold for those who are too lazy to go find the real thing. Anyone who can confuse a retro for an original is a dumbazz who has no business in this hobby, I'd guess.

TWO things:
SE owns and has always owned the Quadangle name. If they want to build a frame with 5 top tubes and 3 sets of seat stay bars and call it a Quadangle, that is completely their right.
If someone else makes a frame to look like a 1980 loop Quad and try to pass it off as an original. THAT IS REPRO-ING and is wrong.
You are talking in circles and comparing apples to oranges. Repopping and retro are two completely different conversations.
Bottom line. If you want one of these, Get on the list. If you don't, good for you. No one is forcing you to buy one. If someone refuses to buy my 1980 looptail Quad because SE is still making looptail Quads then they are an idiot who I wouldn't sell my bike too anyway.

AGAIN I SAY. Has the value of an 07 Mustang (owned and made by Ford) hurt the value of the 1970 (or so) Mustang they were a tribute too (also owned by the same Ford)????? NOT.

"Sigh. My gilfriend who just got into bmx can tell the difference between an original and a remake."

Ya, a year ago she couldn't even spell BMX.
JennBMXmom
Brian, You ain't right man!!! I can too spell!!! MXB no wait...XMB..no that's not it either, here we go... BMX!! Sheesh... I knew I could get it with your help!! LOL

This ain't the same as our buddy Sander making repop Aerospeeds - If you can't look at one of these and just instantly notice that the top tube is waaay longer than an original Quad, you've got issues. The v-brake mounts give it away immediately also...

TOMMY2WHEEL
Can't wait to get mine
jeffry1970
me too...
at least it wasnt made in australia.
Mattblack
^^^^^
jeffry1970
mattblack-
i have nothing against australia.if you read that jackass's post at the top of this page he acts as if people are down on repro products coming from australia or"his" backyard.then he adds the stupid comment about them being made in taiwan.
thats the only reason i said that.
BRIAN HAYS
For the record, I'm not sure how Johnny Chopper got drug into this. I've had very good personal dealings with him ( no I haven't bought any of his stuff) and he's genuinely a nice guy. I am not a fan of ANYTHING repro'd but Johnny DOES at least mark all his stuff as repro, so since he chooses to make it, at least he's being responsible about it.
jeffry1970
i have nothing against australia or johnny chopper.
a few weeks ago johnny chopper took a beating on this forum,as well as a lot of repro stuff from oz.i took mr.bmx's post to say that americans on this site *****ed up a storm about the australia stuff but this was ok since it was from a american company.
my australia comment was directed at the tiawan comment that mr.bmx also made.

i am sorry to any australians that took offense to my australia comment it was meant to be a sarcastic response to mr.bmx's comment.
i also apologize to johnny chopper as i was only refering to the bashing you took on this forum regarding your bottema forks.
i love you all.
furthermore i have no problem with mr.bmx i was only trying to have fun with him.when you re-read my comments they are rather rude and harsh.

so i am sorry to all i ****ed off or offended.

my e-mail and pm box is full of hate mail because of this.
Da Vinch
The frame looks great Todd! Very cool...
Mattblack
I am cool with it

Sarcasim is the hardest thing to type

I don't like to discuss politics, religion or nationally it starts wars. BMX is cool

You are all right buy me.
Mr.BMX
sheesh, talk about waaay outta control guys....

it's nothing to do with me repro-ing either, and please dont bring johnny into my ramblings, my comments and observations have nothing to do with anyone but me.

I just find it funny that you all jump on a local retro/repro/anniversary product, but will just about kill off anyone else in the world for even hinting they make stickers or cranks etc ;-)

I do seem to remember LOAD of people crying over the hint of repro bars and forks appearing, and how they "de-valued" the real thing.....see how it's ok for some to say that, but not for others ????

Nevermind...dum de dumm...
TuRBo Todd Britton
Retro vs. repro is the issue I think most have....
BRIAN HAYS
Jeff, I wasn't lashing in your direction either (just to be clear). I just didn't want JC to stumble across this thread and think I was two faced or something.

Mr BMX. I'm not looking for a fight or long debate with you. Mongoose did their 500 run of bikes and all was cool. Redline did their special project and all was cool. SE will do this project and all will be cool. When these ORIGINAL companies do tributes TO THEIR OWN STUFF, it's all good. My point was that the new doesn't devalue the old. If this was the case then why, after these 500 Mongooses came out did I just have to pay $1100 freakin dollars for a restored 77 Motomag bike...............................Let me tell you that the new sure didn't devalue that old one. We'll just have to agree to disagree. I was just torked because you jumped on this thread with guns a blazin, on attack mode. Lets all go ride our bikes.
