It was 25 years ago this month that our local fairgrounds started their track, Runway BMX in Ludington MI. I knew what bmx was before that, sort of, I'd been imitating motorcycles on my Stingray long before. I, like so many 13 year olds at the time became instantly hooked. Thanks to the original track director Bob Clive who, while making his own sons (Colin Clive of Mustard Plug fame) dream come true by building a track, made dreams I didn't even know I had at the time come true! I am who I am because of BMX, so it seemed fitting that my 25th anniversary of being an "official" bmx racer be celebrated with post # 1981.....

for post 1982 are you going to do an introspective of how Oingo Boingo's Nothing To Fear shaped your musical tastes?
But seriously Todd....thats a cool post. Isn't it funny how memories are triggered? Good stuff.

That track Bob built was the coolest, once the layout changed for the second year it was even better.
I distintly recall racing in the fall @ Ludington, every else stopped racing early September but Bob kept it going into October. Racing in the eliments, cold, wet and snow, thats BMX. Last year we were driving through town, I drove back behind the flea market to see if anything remained, no luck but the feeling of pulling into those woods took me right back to 1981.

It's funny to think that by 1981 I had been racing or at least involved in BMX for almost 10 years. It's a ***** being old..

I know what you mean Randy. I can't count how many times I went back to the tracks location and stood on the starting gate (that was there for quite a while after the track was gone) thinking about all the great times I had there. And the racing in the fall was great! Today's tracks stink for closing so early.
