I took my NBL application to the local track today (HCBMX) and signed up for the ancient dudes on 20" class. I haven't done this since 79, that's 1979.
I'll be the guy in last place next week.
Anybody else do anything abnormal this weekend?

I thought you were headed over seas as well! But... this is much better! Way to go! Go out there and have fun and don't worry about last! Like tinman said, the guy who doesn't get back out there is last! My boyfriend won our local Father's Day Race, by a long shot, after not racing for about 20 years! So, it can be done! Good luck to you and have fun, Jenn

Kind of... at 35 years old I'm doing homework again. College homework. Four-year, BA major, College homewor First time in my life in a four-year College (I got an AA from a community college 10 years ago). It's a weird experience.

Congrats on the comeback . I'm still working on mine. Been "training" lately but haven't had the balls to take it to the track yet. It's coming though. One major comeback at a time, I guess ...

No! but the weekends not over yet! I am meeting up with Spike after work to ride my favorite childhood riding spot "The Gully". Should be good. I think Spike is bringing a camera along. My little digital camera is no good for action shots.

Best of luck on your return to the track. Remember to take little steps. you don't want to end up like the kid in the above photo. above all HAVE FUN!!

That photo's hilarious, Ted. Is that from some kind of Red Cross training thing? That kid looks like he just wants a cookie and a pat on the head. Someone give him an oreo already.

Oh, and despite Ted's heckling, congrats Goosefarmer. Something to realize about the NBL though: Cruiser classes seem more stacked with "old guys" than 20 classes. If you signed up for Rookie, that class is 17 and over. Which is a big age spread...there's always a deadly fast teenage grommet with the sketchiest bike handling skills you've ever seen. If you go straight to novice, you'll only be racing guys your age...but by that time, they're actually pretty quick.

You may consider spending some time in rookie, or maybe riding cruiser...

I second what tinman41 said. It's just you and your machine. Have fun!
Hey tinman, Nashville here too. I'll be starting back soon in 35+. Went to check out a local a few weekends ago. Hadn't been out there since the Murray World Cup days. Nice scene.
