As a few of you know it was my birthday this past Monday and I spent it up in NC with my inlaws. My brother inlaw was also my best friend growing up. Rob Nichols also from Indy. We just about all rode out of Nick's BMX of indy. Also Kathy Hanna and a few other well knowns.
As always we started kicking around about the old BMX days and Rob let me know he wanted to pull his old factory ride out and do some cleaning up on it so he could cruise it around a bit. As we dug deep in one of their old barns and we pulled out the bike I noticed nothing, and I mean NOTHING has even been changed on the bike since he raced back in the day. Still had the comp indoor tires on it from the last Indy Jag Worlds.....wow By the way you can see Rob in action on the J/J DVD 1981 he placed 2nd in the cruiser class.
Rob is a great guy a great Dad and an outstanding brother inlaw to boot. I posted about his home burning down this past Jan 06. Thank you for those who gave donations you rock! Rob has been busy on the rebuild of their home and working 12 hours a day at his regular job.
Here is a cool picture of Rob and his old thruster that was just pulled from more that 25 years of storage. Also you can see the same bike in the picture below from the Indy Jag Worlds in 81'

She was my girlfriend for about a year, I'm thinking from 77' to 78' or so. No kidding. No great stories to be told. Cathy was a pretty good girl back in the day .... oh yeah but then there was her sister Sherry.........but Scott B. will have to fill you guys in on that one .....lol

Rod first Happy belated Birthday. I remember you telling me about Rob's Tri-power a while back and it is exactly as I remembered it. It's awesome to hear that Rob is going to get it cleaned up and start ridin it.
I spent alot of time hanging out at Nick's shop BITD with you, and Rob, Bruce and of course the man himself Nick. I would have to say those were some of the best times of my growing up.

Rob and Nick are the main reasons I rode a Thruster BITD and here is a pic of the jersey Rob gave me when he out grew it. Tell everyone I said hello and I hope all is well.

Rod, any idea why he ran Thruster II forx?? They were mini forks designed to run the taller 1 3/8" rims. They also had pretty skinny legs. It'd be weird to be running them forks, then also using Flights and Graphite mags.

Greg,
As most of the stuff on Rob's bike as new items came out he would get them. Rob seen the smaller 7/8" tubing on the fork and liked the look of them. I'm thinking those may be the first set made.
As far as the look I much like the regular 1" tubing on the standard fork.
Here is a couple of more shots of Rob and I. As you can see we were always close even in the motos...lol
