Japan frame 82/83?

Wait, am I confusing Mongoose with Redline on the Japan thing?

Is your daughter standing in front of the later dropouts(step down)?

It's 81/82ish era but I might be wrong about the Japan thing.

I'm with RandyS on this one. But still a killer score! I think the 78's had the three arrows sproket and Ashtabula components. also I think the gold painted motomags came out in the 80's don't know about any Japan thing either.

Um......what year does the seat post sticker say? Sometimes they are off if manufactured near a year end or beginning, but not more than a year either way.

plus I don't think Mongoose started to put on compoments that were stamped mongoose untill '80

Sod, I agree about the components, but the bike could have been "updated" in `82. I was just going by the VIN at first, then saw RandyS's post and actually took a second look.

Tom, rear dropout pic (minus cute little girl) would help. Either way, great score.

Thats the Mongoose II model, pretty much box-stock. Early 80's...81-82-83 with a weird s/n. The hollowed out chainstay is a dead giveaway.

The white seatmast decal should have a date.

Here are the dropouts. Having holes, I assumed this bike was 82-84 or so. Having been schooled by Randy, Lee, and Astro on my last Mongoose project...I also know that Mongoose stamped seat clamps, headsets, and BB's started in 79/80, so I do not think it could be a '78.

Like Randy said...the weird serial # had me confused.



I never knew the white seat post decal had a date on it...I will check after the sun comes up...

D'oh, stupid serial number (typed in my best Homer Simpson voice). That's what threw me too. I agree-`82ish score!

Update:

I looked at the white decal on the seat post tube....1981



This one's going to a friend.......

I think 1981 was the only year with thsoe drop outs... then Cal style no gusset frames happened.
