I love my 2/4, but that one was pretty rough. I bet you could get a nice one for $300 shipped if you have enough patience.

How much patience?

there needs to be a whole thread or possibly even a forum about inflated shipping quotes. I'm that disgusted with the situation.
I have NO interest in profiting from shipping/handling but it's gotten SO out of control.
Seen 10 bucks shipping on decal sets, 15 for headsets and brake cables. It's pathetic.
I understand if someone wants to boost it a bit to cover ebay/paypal/packing materials fees. I might do the same, but 10times actual shipping (in the case of stickers, etc) is insulting and should be ignored.
Little tip, I'll jump on your auction REAL fast if I see a reasonble shipping quote. Tells me you are for real.
Just the way I feel. Don't sweat losing that auction, Steve. That bike looks sad. 2/4's aren't that rare.

If the shipping charges are stated up front... then what's the problem? I don't like high shipping charges either...
Just take the shipping charges in consideration when placing a bid. If the shipping charges are $100 and the "value" of the item is $300, then don't place a bid higher than $200. Simple.
Again, I don't like high shipping charges either... I just paid one of those "ISOLDIT" outfits $133. to ship a bike a from Conn. to Calif. Yeah, I was ****ed, but... I knew that going in and bid accordingly.

Not THAT simple. That's what reserves and starting prices are for. If someone wants a certain amount for an item, then state THAT. Don't BS buyers on shipping quotes.
It's a stupid game that has no place in our world.
Sure. put a $1 reserve on a quad frame with $500 shipping. There's no good end to the nonsense. And yes, I've seen similar listings.

Well, there's something wrong with a person wanting to to charge $25US to ship three pairs of brake pads to New Zealand (No kidding). I mean, c'mon, it cost me $45US to ship a GT 26 frameset from PA to New Zealand airmail....
Inflated shipping charges are getting worse, thats for sure....

Yeah, I know it was a rough bike, but that's part of the reason I wanted it...
I really enjoy the process of bringing something like that back from the junk pile rather than just dropping big $ for one I don't even need to wipe the dust off when it arrives.
Besides, when I refurb a rat bike, it will eventaully look sweet, but I'll always know deep down it's still a rat and I'll ride it like it was meant to be ridden without feeling guilty about beating it up.

Profiler,
I think you are making it more difficult than it needs to be. Using your $1 + $500 example, you would be spending the same amount if it was $499 + $2 for shipping. The only difference is that the seller only pays Ebay fees on the $1. instead of the $499. You would rather Ebay get the extra cash rather than the seller? I love Ebay more than anyone, but come on...
Okay, so your probably going to say something about... "it's the principle of the whole thing." Overcharging on shipping and undercharging on the item... or vise-versa. All I see is how much money needs to come out of my pocket after the transaction is over.
