A kid down the street from me had a takara bitd. I remember the bike costing $150 from a schwinn dealer & it had the "heavy duty" wheels on it that look like they used motorcycle spokes but that's all I know about them.... anyone care to school me?

I know they were low end bikes (mongoose rip off mainly) Pics? Ads? I just bought one and I'm looking for info / decals / etc. Thanks.

They seem to be pretty popular back in Michigan. I had a couple bitd too (I'm from Fenton, originally). And now when I wanted another one, I bought one from a VBMX'r in Michigan. I decided not to "restore" this one, but rather build it up "Rat". More representative of what I had back then. Mis-matched parts, all used, like I would have gotten in trade or at ACE hardware. It is fun to ride.

Doug,
Does it have a head badge on it? Do you have a pic? I know what you mean, there were quite a few in MI

There were different "levels" for the Takara brand bikes ranging from a mild steel frame set to a chromo full race version. I had one back in the day and it came with Tange TRX forks from the factory and the wheelset was built with 7b's.

I only remember seeing probably the base model bike with the HD wheelsets. I didn't know they had different models. Thanks for the info. Does anybody remember seeing any ads for them?

Those were extremely popular here in CT. My buddy had one, came with Tuff 1's from the factory.

Way BITD when I got my first BMX---about '85---my LBS had them. I remember a chrome one that looked like it had good stuff on it, probably one of the chrome moly jobs.
That bronze colored on DOES resemble an old 'Goose!
