I finally finished (well there is some fine tuning to be done) my "econo" build.

1983 GT Pro in Candy Blue. Serial number 48379.

I never planned to build a 20", but this one was offered to me, and I figured it would look good with the cruisers.

Lots of thanks below, but I want to put a special big thanks out to Clint Sparrey. He built my wheels, and did a

fantastic job. Whats better, is that it gave me a chance to check out his framesets (JMC and SE!). I really appreciate

the trouble he went to. The other person is Andy White (Andy Diamond). We keep emailing each other, and he keeps me

interested in this insane hobby...LOL!

A GT Pro is one bike I always wanted back then. Finally, 11 years later I get one...LOL

very nice build, I think you need some flights, definitley 3 piecebut great job i like the blue and chrome
EL CID
flights or some camy track cranks! MCAM that bike is sweet I would love to take it for a spin up and down the block a couple times.
EL CID
campy

That bike kicks ***!!! OPC's all the way. Screw flexy, strippy, hard to keep together and pull apart, way too expensive 3 piece cranks.

PS Hopefully I can make my 24 as nice as yours some day.
meatpie
Perfect!!! Love the chrome pads.... I hope that i can make my 20"GT that i just got on to(not an hour ago) look 1/2 as good.... The chrome pads set it off..... Top Notch!!!

Hehe, thanks everyone.

Its an econo build. I used a bunch of parts I had, which is the reason I put one piece cranks on. Realistically, down here, there were way more bikes with one piece cranks than Flights, and both my cruisers run Flights, so it was nice for a change.

The other cranks I would have considered would be Cooks. I really dig those
Jarvi
Looks great. Glad you got hold of the hubs you were after. It's not a full econo build though as you went with a sealed bottom bracket. Not that there's anything wrong with your choice.
Tony S.
Nice! That is a geat looking bike!
mcam
Its econo in terms of me not spending a whole lot of money on it

Some of the parts I had here, and others I bought cheap
Jarvi
Fair enough. I used to run the same cranks on my Hutch and would have killed for a sealed bottom bracket. Instead I had to pull it apart, clean, regrease too often. I hated cleaning my bike.

Very nice bike!!!! I have an chrome 82, but that blue is F'n stunning...
proff21
those one-piece cranks look just fine. like you said bitd more bikes had them. very clean machine!
JJR

I LIKE THIS THIS BUILT JUST THE WAY IT IS!!!!!!

the one piece cranks look cool.

nice acs pedals as well. thumbs up
mcam
Man, there is nothing finer than a TONE endorsement Cheers

I've just come in from doing a few little tuneups on it. I rode it up the street, and it rides real smooth.

The squirrely part of the ride was me though. Man, 20 inch bikes steer a LOT quicker than the cruisers...hehehehe

JJR: WOW! nice! Man, both of ours would look cool together! And I considered putting Flights on it, and I thought about 400's because I think they look good, and you've proven it!
84profile
That is very,very cool.

I've actually got a very similar project in the making. Whilst As I've been restoring my 84 Profile (over a year in the making! I procrastinated about the colour!), I decided that I wanted to build a rider too. I also wanted a GT back in the day, so I have got a 83 GT Pro on it's way and all the bits to finish it up. Just need a set of GT Pro forks (if anyone has some pls let me know), they proving to be quite illusive! But I should have it done in the next month. As the Profile has been sucking up the resources and it is a rider I have gone a bit econo on my GT. But hoping it should be a good rider.

By the way, I love that blue, it is insane! Is that powder?
JohnnyRingo
Awesome, love the early 80's model GTs.
Nic Johnson99
That is my favorite GT so far. Really really perfect. You rarely see them in that color. Great details. I think the cranks are down to earth and "keepin it real" so to speak. Love it. Blue in all the right place and chrome in all the right places. It looks easy when it's put together but...not so easy. I just sent the picts to a buddy of mine and the email is titled 'GT BMX Porn" I think that about sums it up.
