2 items I picked up today. I really need a red pad and will trade my yellow and blue for a red one if anyone is interested. The plate is hard to find.
I still need a 2nd gen storm cloud sticker set.

That # plate is awesome! Where'd you find that?

Sean, I have a red stormer pad w/ yellow lettering. Its the cross bar pad and all 3 snaps are good, no tearing, nothing. The only problem I have with trading pads is my red pad came on my "Ames" Stormer bike. Kinda centimental.
That plate is awesome. How did you get that from the shop?

Pat G. gave me the 2 items and I told him when the Stormer is built up and lookin very nice I would let them have it for the store hanging bike collection. I you donate your pad at least you know it will be at a great place. I NEED frame decals. I also need a red rear hub(high flange or low) for a set of Araya 7c wheels for it. I was thinking Ashtabula forks but I would love some Tange too.-The late Rydjor Bike's Dan Ulwelling was looking for a CYC for the shop collection. I guess I feel this is my way of showing my thanks to Rydjor.

I know of an NOS pair of Tange TX 500 forks. I can help with the hub, what color??
I have a set of rims w/ high flanged hubs too. The rims are Sumo rims (look like Araya) laced up to blue high flanged hubs. Just a thought.
I'd consider giving up the pad to go in to the collection.

Wow, this post brings back some memories!
I remember as a kid when we were still living in New England, my mom finally took me to get a 'proper' bmx bike from Everybody's Cycles in Massachusetts.
Up until then I was making do with a girl's 20" used Schwinn which my mom painted white (over the copper paintwork) using ordinary housepaint, then 'jazzed' it up with some red & blue racing stripes made from electrical tape to the lower frame tube!
It had one of those flat, treadless racing slick rear tires and a banana seat that I eventually replaced to make it look more 'bmx'.
The CYC was a '79 chrome Stormer MX, like some of those above. Blue Skyway 1's with Bendix '76 coaster, knobbly tires, ashtabula forks, cranks & goose neck. I remember replacing the ashtabula neck with the thicker stamped version as well as getting some better box bars and a set of blue Oakleys. Eventually I bought a 'copy' tufneck from Spags in Shrewsbury, Mass which was a piece of crap!
I remember the bike shop vividly and 'Bob' who worked/owned it. He was a great guy and really funny. Everybody's were just in the process of finishing off a small track out the back of the shop and I remember on the day we picked up the bike they wanted to take some promo shots for the local newspaper, so Bob strapped an open face Pro-tec on me and asked me to ride the track. I was 9-10 years old and it was my first ever time on a track. I barely got around it without biting dirt!
I always remember even as a kid thinking the welds looked really sloppy and wondered why they just didn't finish off the weld job on the front, the gussets were little more than tack welded to the frame tubes! I also remember on the day in the shop looking at the 'prize' display, on sale then in '79 for $425. A chrome torker, decked out with all gold ano parts. Very nice. Bob patiently 'explained' the differences between the Torker and the CYC (about $250+!)
From then on in we (friends) used to ride through at the weekends from Shrewsbury to watch the races out back. People showed up from all over the place and it was a real opportunity to see some of the best bikes around at the time, SE, Cook Bros, Panda, Mongoose, Redline. They were all there. Those weekends are burned into my memory!
I sold my stormer frame to a neighbourhood kid a year or so later for I think $25 and bought my first 'proper proper' frame. A gold ano '80 Race inc. with MCS cro-mo forks. Brought it back to UK in '81 part built and finished it here.
BMX in the UK was really starting to take off in the southeast, importers like Shiners & Ammaco were bringing in SE, Mongoose and Redline.
Love to see more of the Stormer when it's complete.

Here are a few pic of the CYC build. I havent yet installed decals, but I kinda cleaned up the downtube decal for now:

I have added a non-stamped Astabula fork and stem, proper box bars. Borrowed Araya's (Shimano MX frt hub) w/new 'Tractor Grip' copy tires off my Schwinn. Mongoose snowflake chainring, new Viscount seat, new Cycle Pro rat-traps. Anyways, will post more pics as it progress'. Thanks to BillN for the frame. ~Guy

Now you need some Tange TX 500 curved forks.
Nice build, really nice!
I see your missing grips. They came with the "milky" colored grips if I remember. Not sure who made them

That turned out really nice. I know what that frame looked like - if I thought it had that kind of bling left in it, I might have kept it.
Nice job for sure.

Hey Bill! Thaks for the props. that took A LOT of polishing for sure! Havent stuck the NOS decal yet. The downtube sticker doesnt look have bad from 20ft! Does anyone know WHICH forks the "CYC Stormer" not "CYC Stormer MX" had? What were differences? I have a catalog pic from '77 CYC catalog, and the 77 frame has the sticker set I have. Just not sure how the "Stormer for 77" was assembled? Again, Thanks for the hook-up &^ compliments ~Guy

Feb 13 2007, 12:45 PM
Guy, not sure about the "Stormer" , but I think the Stormer MX had the Ashtabula's if I remember right and the MXR had the Tange TX 500 curved. Not this is the era you have. I love those decals you have on the the most. I had handfuls of those things when I was a kid.
Guy: Palmdale? I use to live off Ave. "L" and Bellini Way in Palmcaster, then moved to Quartz Hill... Great area and I miss it alot.

Brad, Im at 25st East & Ave S. The area has changed quite a bit. Some areas like da ghetto. Othere areas are pretty nice. How long ao did you live here??
B. Apold
Feb 13 2007, 04:21 PM
Guy, I lived there in 91-92, however I go back yearly to hit Willow Springs/ streets of Willow ( SCCA track time). Gotta get me So Cal fix ya know. I lived on the west side of the 14, and it was a nice area. I know lots of people around there.
I'm thinking that picture above is actually the model that became the MX and had the Ashtabula forks as well. Atleast with that decal set thats the way I remember it. Rydjor bike shop in my home town sold thousands of those bikes and always remember the forks on that frame. My friends were the first on the block to have the MXR, which of course, "OMG, tube forks" ( I was in aw), then I got the Ames stormer soon after and then it was my turn to make everyone say, "what is that"???? LOL!!!! God I miss those days.

Saw that! Nice red Stormer!...
Brad, Ive been to Willow several times. But spend quite a bit of time @ LACR (drag strip), I also have 3 Pontiac GTO's. 1 of which is a 69 Judge drag car. Runs 10.90's @ 125.00+ (11.19 @ 119.00 @ Palmdale's altitude.) Anyways, west side is still THE place to live in this area. Luckily, Im right off Pearblossom, but So of "S" @ 25thEast. There is a VBMX member or 2 in my neighborhood too. Anywho, when you are in the area again, gimme a shout. Where do you live now? ~Guy

I might know where a CYC 78/79 is with really cool Lesters. Let me make a few phone calls.

Jay, Its actually a Custom S w/ 350 small block. Custom S wasn't a common model. Its a Lemans or a Tempest technically. Its still a GTO platform... anyway.. I was just being simple with info (small talk), after all this is a bmx thread.
Guy, sweet car. The Judge is soooooo nice!
