last night while entering my latest purchase of BMX magazines into a excel spreadsheet...

I could of swore one of the BMX PLUS mags from '86 had a test on the 500a. Also I remember seeing a ad for the 500a in the same issue, listing the MSRP at just at or just below $200.00.

I will double check tonight.

I think your right... there was also a GT ad that had the mach one and pro series and said "new for 1985"

I'm looking at the October 1984 issue of BMX PLUS.

They have a test of the 500a SERIES THREE.

Painted Model $199., chrome $210.

That would be an 1984, the only year the 500a was offered. I have 3 chrome ones hanging in my garage, one of them is my first "real" bmx bike from BITD.
It was the last year for a full chromo in the 500 series, in 85 they went to trimoly and the 500b had the updated "fade" graphics like the RL 20II's. The 84 was only available in white and chrome, and the yellow stickers were originally a yellow to red fade, but the sun bleached the red out of mine in a matter of months.
Out of curiousity, where are the weep holes on the seat and chainstays? Are they in the end caps or drilled in the tubing? One of mine is on the end, the others on the tubing.
I have the test from BMXA that Boone sent me a few years ago if you want it, it's a cool read. In fact it's from the issue that had the ad that was mentioned above and convinced me that I NEEDED to buy that bike. The rest was all downhill from there...
I have nearly collected all the parts to restore my original ride, just pedals and a fresh set of 890's are left.

The holes are in the end caps. Is anyone interested in this?

Is it complete?
