Hi, I just found this forum after looking to restore my bike. WOW! I had no idea. KK now that's out of the way here is my bike.
I used it growing up in the early 80's. I think it's an 81 or 82 but can't pinpoint exactly when I got it. A little help on that would be appreciated. After I was driving and not using my bike much anymore I loaned it to my cousin. He rode it until the mid 90's. When he returned it, I noticed that he put Powerlite bars and a GT neck and seat. I asked where my original stuff was and found out that he had tossed them! So if any one wants to trade those parts out let me know. I am pretty sure the bars are early to mid 80’s and not sure on the neck, I think its mid 80’s.

Welcome aboard, I love the Cook Bros and wish I only had one of my survivors...

It took me a long time to find all the parts to do this build. I am still looking for an original pad set and sticker set. Eventually, I want to do the following:

*change Aero seat to MX seat
*replace knobies with proper Cheng Shins
*replace brake shoes with era-correct shoes
*find a real set of Reedy pedals
*find a real Cook Bros seat clamp

Very Nice survivour!!! and welcome to the site!!!
i would try Ted Carl's rust removal before trying to touch that finish, or go wild with a blown out resto, i personally do not have any restored bikes in my colletion...just nice to super nice survivours with original chrome and original stickers. thats the way i like them... look for Teds tips (that sounds funny don't it??) in the tech and restoration forum. I bet u will be glad and shocked at the results!!!! Good Luck and keep us posted!!!

Hey, welcome to VBMX! Will be cool to see your old ride all done up again. I bet you were amazed how many people here are just like you.

Here is a pic of my early NOS nickel CBR that I wish I had not sold

Jamie, how I could use those blue pads!

66alfa_gtv You have a nice ride! It looks close to the same year as mine what year is it?

Jon(OLDSKOOLPK) You made a good point about it being a survivor I don't want to be extreme I just want it to look like it did when I bought it, with all the same gear. I won't do any chroming work. I was a little torn on weather to switch out the original stuff like the Maxi Cross for CBR stuff but I have decided to restore it to how it was when I got it at the bike store.
The resto forum was the first that I found when I searched eBay and it just happened to be Ted Carl's thread that talked about the Oxalic Acid which I have on order from the Chem Store

Jamie that’s sad you sold that, it looked perfect. Yes I am amazed at how many people feel the same way as I did about my bike and about those times in my life when I rode.

Very nice CBR, and welcome to the site. The good times these bikes brought to us is the reason we're all here.
I have CBR frameset #666...I'm trying to decide how to build it now.

Thanks, it was perfect. A truly NOS frameset that I accidentally discovered a couple of years ago, got laid off and needed the cash so it was sold regretfully. Maybe I can find or even better, score a nice used frameset to actually ride someday. The CBR parts are just too expensive like the Hutch bikes for me to afford and try to build up. Wish I could.....

don't build it, burn it, Thats a scary number....Okay, maybe I am just joking a bit. How about some Iron Maiden colors or something to go along with that number you have there.

Sorry, those were sold along with the bike. Who knows, another set may come along. I know of one other bike like that one I had but the owner will not sell it for a price I can afford. He wants like close to 2,000 dollars for it......guess I can keep a dreaming
