Does anyone have an 83 NBL paper and can tell me how many NBL tracks there were in Jersey in 83? Numbers for DE, PA, and NY would also be lovely.
I believe the total # of NBL tracks in 83 was 245
I've got an 83 ABA paper and it shows 14 tracks in NJ:
North Bergen
Jersey City Armory
Kinnelon
West ****ord
Teaneck
Vineland
Bargaintown EHT
Deptford
Clayton
Ventnor
Cape May Court House
Brigantine
Egg Harbor City
Toms River

From what I remember, the only NBL tracks in NJ in 83 were: CJBMX (Howell) and Flemington. I raced Lawenceville (NBL) in 82, but I'm not sure it was around after that.

The fact is that there were way more tracks all over the USA in 1983 than in 2006. Narowing it down to each and every state and by sanction would be an interesting study.

Unfortunately, you can't go by the NBL paper to determine how many tracks there were. Any organization that submitted affiliation papers were listed in the back whether they actually had a track or raced that year.
An example of this was the track in Yorktown VA. listed in '84 NBL paper (Bicycles Today). Paper work was turned in and schedule set but track only got first straight cleared of trees before a nearby church filed legal papers to stop the build. The Yorktown state race and two local races were run on Hampton's track to give them voting rights on the state level but the track never ran on their site or ever again. This happened many times to many tracks in Virginia. We would have 7-10 tracks listed but only 3-4 actually raced all the time. We had ABA tracks listed in Virginia that I never even heard of.

Sorry Caveman Dave, I didn't answer your question. Let me do that now.
According to the July 1983 Bicycles Today(with a really sweet cover pic of Charlie Williams on a Hutch cruiser) New Jersey had 4 tracks:
Flemington #0177
Hacketstown #0650
Howell #0179
Lawrenceville #0175
Delaware had 1 track, Kirkwood/Newark #0105.
Pennsylvania had 18 tracks:
Beaver Falls #0517
Bensalem #0602
Clarion #0519
Delmont #0192
Denver #0514
Franklin #0657
Fredericksburg #0515
Johnstown/Highland Park #0516
Kutztown #0520
Lititz #0521
Markle #0191
McConnellsburg #0518
Philadelphia #0523
Phoenixville #0190
Pittsburg (north park) #0189
Pittsburg (south park) #0522
Reading #0248
Uniontown #0257
New York had 6 tracks:
Liverpool (Comptime) #0493
Liverpool (Onandaga) #0491
Middletown #0480
Niagra Falls #0651
Poughkeepsie #0479
Schenectady #0492
Hope that answers your question.

Thanks Popeye, that's perfect. I agree, both sanctions probably listed tracks after they closed or that never opened to inflate their numbers.
pquinn, I have gathered SOME statistics. For example there were a total of 701 tracks in the US in 83 which fell to a low of 255 in 93. Today there are 368. It's unbelievable but in 89 the NBL actually had more tracks than the ABA. The ABA had 146 and the NBL had 150. However, 89 was the ABA's lowest point but the NBL continued to slide from 150 tracks to 101 in 93.
I've done all this to see for myself the sad state BMX is in and how far it's fallen. So NJ supposedly had 18 tracks at it's highest point. Today there's three.

I have a '83 NBL point standing paper that I'm looking through and don't see any track listings... just names with rank and points.
