...while on her paper route the other day.

She called me at work asking "..do you know anything about a Predator BMX bike?"
I said "yeah... your bike & your sister's are Predators - why?"

"...are they any good?" "...where are they from?" etc etc

After enough questions, I finally asked why again
Her answer "I got one today"

me - "What?!!"

"It's got these black wheels that are like the ones I put on Eli's bike but they're plastic and you can pedal back ...and I don't think the seat is original because it's wierd. I'm not sure but the handlebar might be bent because the top bar is in like a V or something..."
(lol)

I got home and this is what is was -

She's kinda excited and so am I. I think this is a cool thing in a lot of ways.

It is dirty but not rusty. Aired up the tires and it rides ok.

details for geeks
nice welds on the frame and boogers on the fork & handlebar
seat tube decal denotes 4130
chain stay decal denotes cro-mo mag
metal flange on the mags is stamped "red stone"
serial numbers are G0283 and 354054

this is the first edition type Predator- right?

.

This one is her rider BMX bike. She built it from spares & stuff I had around the garage. All I did was give instruction.

It was a nice green (her paint job before assembly) but she decided to paint it like this - w/o disassemble.
Kinda cheesed me off... but it is her bike - so ???
We built up some blue Arayas on Sunshine HF hubs so it has decent wheels now... also added HKK chrome chain, Shimano PDMX15 pedals and Sugino sprocket/spyder (I pushed for those... gotta have cool parts )

.

(mostly this post is just me bragging because my teenage daughter is way cool)

WOW...really nice find. It looks all original except for the seat, levers and cables. I believe the grips are original cuz i think they came with Grab On knock-offs. Those tires are original too...nice....

And yes, your daughter is cool...my niece would have noooooo idea and she is the same age...

Great score. I though they got rid of paper routes for kids and are now ran by adults throwing them out of cars

What kind of mags are those in the first pic Andy? I just found a Mongoose the other day with the same ones.Nice score!

That was my first "real" BMX bike. Same colorscheme and everything. Finding a Viscount Aero shouldn't be too difficult.

Thanks.

I don't know what the mags are ???
I'm thinking they are OE. I do remember seeing those on Predators. The only marking I found is "Red Stone" stamped on the metal flange in script.

I don't know the plans for this bike... afterall, it is hers.
I might try and buy it from her and clean it up for my son (5). Then it could be his first real BMX bike.

What you got is a really original 1983 CRO MO MAG Free, they also made a CRO MO MAG Coaster. The bars, and the levers are original, only the seat was changed - should have a Viscount Aero. You even have the snake belly gumwall tires (I need those...) I have a 1983 catalog and this is the model that is between the "Team Series" and the "Thrasher Series".
They were great bikes, I had a "Team Alloy" (and I'm currently restoring one - that's why I need the gumwalls) and I remember seeing this model in the Schwinn showroom when I picked mine up.

Speedrcr I have NOS gumwalls like those shown.Email me at ceo@sportscardgold.com .

I think the mags maybe REDSTONE?

Those bikes are nicely made.I found one at a local thrift shop for $4.99 a few months back but gave it to a friend.

I dont think that the brake levers on an 83 schwinn race bike came with locking buttons...since they hadn't been invented yet in 1983...

but maybe im wrong...
