I know full well this belongs in Retro New School, but it's been a pretty depressing place as of late.

I bought a Volume Sledgehammer a few months ago, and she's finally done to my satisfaction. The only thing from the original complete is the frame, tires, tubes, and rimstrips.

Check it out:

Here's a part's list:

Frame: Volume Sledgehammer. Black.

Fork: Threadless Bottema replica, made by hand in Australia by Johnny Chopper. Chrome.

Handlebars: Skull Skates retro cruiser, 28" wide and a ton of sweep. Chrome with black snap pad.

Stem: Snafu Armstrong Lite. Gold.

Headset: Dia Tech CB-2, sealed. Gold.

Grips: A'me Rounds with Lizard Skins doughnuts. Black.

Bar ends: Snafu corks. Gold.

Cranks: GT by Profile, 175mm. Chrome.

Chainwheel: Profile Imperial, 40T. Gold.

Chain: KMC Z Chain. Gold.

Freewheel: Shimano 18T, chrome, with ACS Claws 14T, chrome on the small side.

Pedals: Eastern sealed. Gold.

Bottom Bracket: Odyssey sealed. Black.

Rims: Halo Tornado. Gold.

Hubs: Sunshine high flange, front. Gold. Sunshine flip flop back. Gold. Made in 1982, baby!

Spokes: DT Swiss, straight gauge with aluminum nipples. Black.

Tires: Kenda K-Rad, 1.95.

Seat: Shadow Penumbra Crow, Alistair Whitton. Paisley.

Seatpost: Snafu J-bar. Gold.

Seatpost clamp: Snafu Conrad. Gold, with canti brake stop.

Brake handles: Dia Compe mountian bike. These are the original mountain bike levers, and they're huge. I put them on there to look extra moto.

Front brake: Dia Compe 901. Black with gold Skyway Tuff Pad Pro pads.

Rear brake: Avid Shorty canti's. Black. Cantilevers are hardly the most advanced thing going in braking, but I wanted to run the monster handles, and they won't work with a V-brake.

Number plate: OGK old school oval, black. It's got number 5 CA on it, which is my NBL state number for cruiser. I usually race a 24 in cruiser, but I think I'm going to do a few motos with the Sledge for sh*ts and giggles. I love the way it rides.

Lookin' perty sharp, I might say. Oddly enough I'm in the early stages of a very similar build, and even got my gold ACS hubs in last week. Anyway, I'm glad you posted it so now I can kinda visualize what mine is gonna look like. Only difference is I'm planning on a new-skool OM as a starting point. BTW, does the Volume have 3/8 or 14 mm axles?

Changed a few things, did ya? Heh heh...That's sweet. I'm considering something similar myself in the near future, now that my wife's Powerlite 3-bar is done.

Nice bike. Very unique.

I like the forks a lot. They look better than my current Retro Bottema.

Nice bike.........

Pedro DJed at the club I work at a few months ago.
Spun a bunch of progressive trance,
which is a fancy way of saying a type of techno.

I'm not really sure how long the chainstays are. Compared to the Kappa 26" I had, it doesn't wheelie all too well--lower, definitely, and probably longer. I've since thrown on a set of gold MX 900's for the front.

My quad and parts are coming in from Chip on Wednesday...so it's on to the next project. I have a problem.

That is a sweet cruiser. It's obviously modern, but it looks so old-school.
Dude, I knew the second I saw 'em that those were some Dia-Compes. Those levers absolutely ruled BITD when all you had were some wimpy, flexy cyclocross cantilevers to stop with.
You would'nt possibly have a line on another pair, would you? Or mabey part with those? I've been lookin' for a pair for an '85 Stumpjumper I have laying around.
Gooser, I have the same problem as you. I've been finished with the rebuild of my '89 Civic Si for only like 2 weeks, and I'm already itching to tear something else apart and put it back together again. Like, say, a late 70's KZ900 or 1000?

Nice bike. Digging on the black and gold combo. Lotsa guys thinking along the same lines. I've got some parts at the powder coater right now, and when they come back I'll finish my new/old school retro cruiser. Pics forthcoming.

Rooking Good! I think the rear brake cable is a bit short, but I am nit picking.
