Check out this great article the Ogden newspaper did on Mike recently. Thanks to Justin Alvey for giving me the heads up, it's a good read.

He was one of the nicest guys that I ever met at the races back in the day..... as a kid running around gettings autographs at a National, he took the time to talk to me, and even walked back to his car to get an 8x10 to autograph for me.
A class act!

Thanks for sharing B.
I really miss the days that Poulson ruled and I raced Julee Lindsay. Glad to hear Mike is doing well. Did he show up at the SLC National?
I never met Mike's mom but his dad was a great guy. Sad to hear of his passing... atleast that's the way I read it in the interview.

Very cool. He was one of my first BMX heroes since he was from Utah, and rode a Schwinn(which I had in the early days).

That article brings back memories for sure.
Poulson's parents were super nice, I wonder if their old house still has that Sting they planted for a mail box.
Mike is a good guy but I always felt he had issues with all the attention and the demands he received from BMX.
I'm actually surprised he did the article.
Julee was a cool chick and a hoot to ride with.
I remember doing gate starts in her driveway till dark.
Nothing but the best for both of them.

Nice article, long, but nice! Glad to see he's doing good! BITD, I saw him race at the Grands in OKC. He broke his leg and his frame in the same wreck! OUCH! It was a pretty bad break! The leg and the bike!

The article mentions he has all his bike and lots of memorabilia, man I'd love to see pics of all that. He needs to join vbmx and share.

A true hero of Utah.

You guys might remember that I chatted with him at our national last year. He knows of VBMX but he is still very low key & would like to keep it that way I guess. He loves to talk about the old days in person though.
Anybody else have a good Poulson story?
Maybe I'll copy & print this out & give it to him.

If you want to stay low key make sure MSNBC doesn't pick up your story.

Mike was my first and only BMX hero! Growing up in a Schwinn store and later my father working for Schwinn-- I had to ride a Schwinn! All of my friends had GT, SE, and others. In 1980 I got my Sting (blue- like Mike).
I am currently building a WHITE sting (my dream bike from BITD). I have a pair of 1981 graphites that Mike raced to complete the build. The cool thing about the wheels- is the original yellow skyway graphite box that Mike had checked on Frontier Air-- it has a bagage claim ticket with his signature!
ps. Thanks to Jimmy for selling me those wheels a few years back!

I met Mike when I was 14 years old when I lived in Utah. I met him during the winter when they were racing bmx at the Utah State fair grounds on an indoor track with wooden table top jumps and cement floors. He was as nice and even gave some pointers to my dad, while I was racing. I ended up getting some of his old schwinn racing leathers and jersey, but my wife threw them away about 10 years ago ARGGH!. Too this day I have yet to meet a nicer guy who no matter what would take time out to talk to the young people and give autographs whenever he was asked.

WOW Awesome story....I too had the same trophy problem. lol.
I remeber meeting Mike and Donny Atherton at the 1983 NBL grands. They were both very open to talking with me.
The key thing that stays in my mind about Mike is his love for his religion. On his visor read (MORMON) who remebers that?
Thanks for the memeories Mike.

Thanks Bruce. That was great. Mike is a Hall of Famer! I was lucky to travel with him and Schwinn for '83, '84, '85 and '86.

I know this is an old thread but he had a major part in the end of my racing.
met him at the small ABA National in 1985 when I was a 17x. nice guy and very friendly.
I tripled that National and was very happy.
Julee Lindsay won 14 girls.
in 1987 when the ABA messed up the pro payout by paying for rider turnout and not a guaranteed purse. (* Ronnie Anderson made the ABA change after he was winning all the pro classes in 1985 and making out like a bandit. I think pro payout was $1500 for each class).
well Mike beat me in Both races at the 1987 NJ Liberty National.....
I was bummed & burned out and it was time for me to stop racing.
