It's so y'all can see where the new forum is located on the main page (after off topic, above classifieds). A lot of folks have specific forums bookmarked and rarely see the main page.

I feel a few non-registered members (booted) will be forming from this....i know OS does this also... Hey...cool idea... just hope it doesn't get abused.
But then again....having a forum of shame...and a forum for some great guys will maybe seperate the men from the boys....
I wish it good luck...hope it all goes as planned

With all due respect Im not sure how this could work. The first words you read are in bold text and they say "this is not a trash talk forum"............
How can it not turn into that? Anyone whos accused of something will usually turn it into a bigger mess whether or not right or not right.
I know its important to get the message out about scams and frauds but it usually cannot be done with out an arguement, hurt feelings, anger, verbal attacks, threats, ect. I dont agree with that thinking it just seems to be that way.

Business is cut and dry.
Wether you like me or not, nobody that has done business with me since I joined this place can say anything bad about my business practices. I pack/ship properly and quickly.
I'm not a bank, I don't need to hold onto people's money. If people have done the right thing in the past, and, don't behave like 2 year old egomaniacs, then they should have nothing to worry about.
To me E-bay is a last resort, I prefer to buy/sell/trade within this community than outside of it.
This place has needed this for a while now. Now it will be very easy to distinguish a true seller from a fraud. There will be no more room for people that stiff people on deals, yet come on here and PW and wanna act like social butterflies.

point is you cant let someone drag someone else through the mud WITHOUT hearing both sides of the story. It all works together. For example, this is not true of course but you get the idea.
RANDY sold me a frame that was cracked, i got screwed on the deal, he charged me 200 bucks and i got this piece of junk.
Now, of course this is hypothetical and im just making stuff up but see, randy would need to respond. It would be his right to.
Granted, people can usually sort through things themselves but when this sort of stuff happens it usually get ugly.
Reilley1
Aug 7 2006, 12:50 PM
RANDY did that? Oh man, gotta stay away from that guy for sure!!
How about those repro bangos you sold me?
I'm kidding on both but it reinforces Tone's point that it's easy to go on a slippery slope with a one-sided accusation

all a "good guy" forum will prove is that somebody did a good deal with YOU. they may have scammed a dozen other guys you don't know about. or in some cases, don't care about.
bad guy forum without ability to respond to criticism? ouch.
i recommended a new forum where people could whine about eBay and put the crap about "its been 6 days since i paid...", "the guy hasn't emailed me in a week", "anybody know who ebayer xxx is?" - just to get it out of the vintagetalk forum.

Aug 7 2006, 01:03 PM
That's another great point. One of the much maligned (justifiably so) guys in the sport, has helped me out a couple of times. So even the "good" guy forum becomes moot.
Besides, some people just love drama and will talk smack just for the heck of it

TONE, I understand that people have old beefs, and, axes to grind. And that a one-sided argument can be detrimental to a members reputation and/or membership.
The truth is, that people tend to know who is who around here anyway, even before the feedback forums were introduced. And anyone that slings unjustified mud will pay dearly in the end, one way or another. This we all know.
So this will only solidify the members that are in good standing with the community. I can think of dozen guys from vintage that I'd buy a part from sight unseen based on their description of it.
I can also think of a few members I wouldn't trust any further then I can throw them, but since they've never kept my money/parts, I'm in no position to slander them. Maybe now some of those "skeletons" will come out of the closet.
And just because someone is a long time member, is popular within his most frequented forum, and/or, has a stellar collection. It will no longer be an excuse for irresponsibility.
Lets face it, we have a little bit of everything here, but for the most part we're all a bunch of thirtysomethings, with careers/families, etc. looking to relive our childhood in this hobby.
We now splurge on the bikes we couldn't afford BITD, and sometimes restore one of our childhood bikes. I mean seriously, how many kids did you know growing up that had 20 NOS bikes?
I've come accross some well established, long time members that acted as if they were doing me a favor by talking to me, and/or selling me something.
That sort of egotism is unecessary (I mean c'mon it's just BMX bikes), and, hopefully these feedback forums will level the playing field for all those who approach this hobby with good faith.

But, I have taken the heat on os-bmx because I don't the bad deals or scammers to be outted.
I was scammed once, by a very well known person who no longer is alive. But I never said a word about until now because I'd be crucified by the defenders of his honor.
See where this is going? There is no good place for airing the dirty laundry.

WORD!!!!
There's a sea of deals on-and-off this website and chat, and other sites, and plenty more ebay crap that we need solid participation to discover any patterns. The community will be better for it. How many predators large and small crossover on and off all the sites maximizing their earning potential?
The posts there now are exactly what we envisioned happening. It's pretty cut and dry if someone took your money or traded you bunk as mint or fake as original, or simply not shipped at all. How about all those people with fake stuff sold to them as NOS rise up and SAY SOMETHING.
Until then... I/we/you have no clue how large the problem really is.
C'mon Tim, who has stolen from you? Step up brotha!
The only pattern we might see is that human beings like to tell stories instead of saying I don't have a tracking ID and the item was lost in the mail. In which case there should be a full refund. Tracking numbers don't lie. There should be a forum for wacky stuff that happens to your purchase before reaching you. Flood, Fires, Acts of God. Some of the excuses would be hysterical.
For instance, that poor felow who sent his DB out for repair and after a long while got it back in a little box. Cut into pieces. That story should be in there. I know who did it (and that person still actively jaunts around on boards), but forgot who that happened to. It will be excellent reading. Bonus points for pictures.
The only ones worried about the new forum (pointed at nobody in particular, honest) are.. well.. you know..

If you have undoubtedly been wronged but choose not to say so because of other factors at play, then that's your choice.
If you have been wronged by someone that you know has wronged others (and is still around), how can that info not be beneficial to us?

Im not debating this for my own sake or my reputation. Thats not my point at all. Im just worried about the sites integrity.

I think it's shortsighted to think a feedback forum of any kind would make this a negative place. 99% of us are mature happy go lucky people. That won't change. You should see the goth boards out there.. LMAO
Of course there are two sides to every story... all registered members have the right to post there and state their case. I see people are already using it properly.
There will be no rapid exchanges of hate in this format. The feedback forum gives us leverage to legitamately move or delete buyer/seller disputes from other forums without being accused of sweeping problems "under the rug".
Thats a scarey section. I hope my name doesn`t pop up in there. I just took a quick glance but can we reply to a thread there?

Lou, if you're business dealing have been legit from day one. Why would you worry about your name popping up in there?
I know for darn sure no one, and I mean no one can say a bad word about my business dealings on this board. And having learned to wield an e-Axe at some of the rowdy, venom spewing car forums. (the crowd around here is relatively mild by comparison)
I'd hardly say anyone here would be wise to wrongfully accuse anyone.

My business dealings are 200%!!!! I never had gave anybody a bad deal. I recieved a few bad ones but I keep my mouth shut on the board with those. I did many free paint jobs here for favors. But there will always be somebody out there that thinks he`s above everybody so he will think the deal is wrong to him.
We can`t reply on that section! I don`t know if thats good or bad.

lou and TONE, I agree with both of you. I for one don't want any part of gossip or politics. But part of what I said above relates right back to what lou said, he's been 100% with everyone, yet he's been screwed and bit his lip.
People have to stop biting their lip and air it out! And just like rick said, the two faced members that see vbmx, ebay, os, etc. as their own little "profit playground" to scam others will slowly (to some extent) be weeded out.
I don`t need to say anything when other people are already saying it against that person.

All I can say is that one of the reasons I frequent this website is that it is well moderated. That "other" website tends to get out of hand in the trash talkin forum and there is a few regulars on there that can pretty much hang out at the OK coral with as much firepower as they want without fear of moderation.
Nothing to do witrh me, but when I see the foul language and personal attacks come flying thick and fast, particulary when its from members who arent even involved, its time to get the hell out of dodge.

I think the bashing will increase and some trust will be lost.
When someone not saying "no thanks" (really - literally) can lead to lost friendships, harsh words, crazy accusations flying in every direction, and demands to choose sides... yeah, anybody can find their name popping up in the "Cons" section when a couple beers and festering bitterness are involved.
There's currently a thread on OS where a member is rallying support against an eBay seller for being rude to him. "Don't bid on his auction because he's a jackarse." Non-payer? no. Non-shipper? no. Selling junk as gold? no. Just "rude".

ugh...hoping this day would never come here. I like the fact that there "was" a place with no bull****. There is a million different analogies I could use here to why I think this is a bad idea. No response? So if some wad talks junk for no reason a good dude could look like a ****...not cool!
Rick,
I've only been out-and-out doinked on a deal about 5 times in 2,000 deals (roughly). 4 of the 5 were fly-by-nighters long gone.
There's also a few guys that seem to think I'm happy to pay their mortgages whenever the need arises, and are now unhappy that a bleeding arse isn't something I want to walk around with on a regular basis. Imagine... I'm a bad guy because I wouldn't pay their asking price, deciding I needed my money more than they did. Yes, boys and girls, it happens.
I always pay. Instantly.
I always ship. ASAP.
I always offer money back if not completely satisfied. Taken up on it twice if I recall.
Being an admitted jackarse, I'd hate to see my name in the Cons section for being just that - a jackarse. Albeit one that pays, ships and backs up his product 100%.
Just saying...

I totally agree with Tim here. Can't the cons section be opened up for MATURE rebutle? Anything other gets ousted. Of course Rick, this means you'll have to quit your job and solely dedicate your existance to the cons section.
I guess the worst part is that there ARE immature jackarses that will abuse that forum. Sure would be nice if it could just go unpoliced. Would be even better if it always remained empty because we were all good to each other. It is sad.

I'm sure that the mods will keep a leash on whats gonna go down in there...
1 of the cool things about this community is that most of the inside deals that go on here are good for both parties, and thats not gonna change.
I'd be a little sketchy about buying a NOS PK loop from someone thats been registered here for 2 weeks, and has 12 posts, but for the most part we know who's got the goods, and we know who the good peeps are...
