Well, I have to admit I cried wolf last year; we went though some issues trying to release my scanned BMX news papers but this time, it will be a go.
Bill (VBMX master) bought a nice large format scanner and my Jan 77 to March 78 are on their way to the VBMX site as we speak. It will take some time but we will get these rolling this time.
Please keep your eyes on this forum and this topic and we shall update it as we progress though other issues.

Update: Bill is one working man! The first set is soon to be finished and the test runs I have seen look very nice. It appears we ought to be able to get the entire collection on four CDs and then have another one for some vintage catalogs and other misc. information from 1974 to 1976.
Thanks to Bill for so much hard work so soon. It may be another couple of weeks before we get the next third shipped and scanned but we plan to continue to get this wrapped up soon.

The first third is complete and on its way back to KC and will be here on Aug 2nd. The second set, Nov 76 back to June 75, is ready to ship and will leave KC the 3rd. They should be done maybe mid-next week. After that, the next ones, May 76 to the first issue, June 74, will be shipped.
We will also scan some Webco and DG catalogs and some other misc. catalogs and brochures.
Stand by!

Howdy all, the second group is complete and safely back in my hands. The last group, Oct 75 back to June 74, is at VBMX headquarters and is soon to be scanned. Bill also scanned the DG and Webco catalogs as well as some others you may not have heard of. Stand by for more updates within a week or so.

Ramo, thank you for noticing. If you look closely at them, you may be able to see my name on the address labels. I took all the photos of mine for my French friend that has that site.
The last few BMXNewspapers that Bill is scanning with the new VBMX Scanner should be completed, maybe even as we speak, today, Monday. Bill was intently working on them this last weekend.

BMX News is now officially digitized.
I've scanned every copy from June 1974 through March 1978, the last issue.
I'm looking at options for distribution. It might be on DVD or span multiple CD.

43 Issues, 4 special edition inserts, 1055 pages.
There is so much data, it won't fit on a single DVD.

Bill,
Thanks so much for the update and even more so, for doing this so rapidly. The last gentleman that did it took several months more and unfortunately, times and situations changed for him and he could not finish the project. I am glad you did and I am sure others that have been patiently waiting on us will be glad to see these historically significant BMX papers.
Looking forward to the final product and I will be glad when the originals are back home here safely.
I assume you will update us on the "shop and Stuff" as well as here when they are ready for sale?

Thanks to all involved with this project. I have been lucky enough to acquire a few from Ramo, Tom Welsh, Cash Matthews and Rick Twomey but since the whole series would be almost impossible to find, the project makes me happy.
I remember every issue like it was yesterday.

Fantastic! Greatly appreciate your work of Samson!
Any approximate time table on when the CD's go on sale? Can't wait!
Incidentally, what model Scanner are you using by way of curiosity?
And after your nice very deserved long rest what will be the next project?

OT80,
Thanks for the kind words.
Yes, as you know this has taken a lot of time and work and money. Shipping these cross country many times is nerve racking and time consuming and rather costly when you do a few per time and insure them for a lot.
Bill bought a large format scanner but I can't recall the number. I am sure we can ask him to post it later for you.
My project is building mufflers for 1970 VOE GTOs but that is another story.
I am hopeful that very soon, Bill will have his time and supplies figured and get these rolling.

My storage area in the basement is again complete because my first (and last-to-scan) issues are now home. The scanning AND shipping process is over thank goodness. After shipping them all back and forth (twice), not one was lost or damaged.
Bill will be back home after a host of offsite business projects and should be posting the projected costs and format of the CDs/DVDs soon.
OT80, I am sorry that we forgot to list the name and type of the scanner. I will ask Bill once again about it.
It's taken a while but should be worth it.

And the good things keep coming. I received my copies of the CD's today and it is awesome to finally be able to scan through, page by page, all of these historically significant BMX papers.
Bill did a wonderful job and all who end up buying a set will be happy with the clarity and detail. I received eight CDs and part of them have vintage BMX information from other sources.
I do not have a DVD reader on my old computer so it took CDs to be able to load them in.
Thanks for your patience. I think you will be happy with the final results.

I used a Microtek 9800XL large format bed scanner.
I'm sorry for the delay, I've been out of town with work and haven't had much time for anything.
The newspapers will be available shortly....I promise.
My next project is completion of the Mongoose reproduction decals and then I resume scanning BMX Action magazines.

Can't wait for the CDs!
I grew up with Bicycle Motocross News. Waited religiously by the front door of Tom's Bike shop when i knew it would arrive.
Had a few letters printed and i think got a picture or two printed even..
Thanks Tom and Bill
