Would someone be able to give me an example of an 83' Laserlite serial number and provide a pic of a frame? I would like to buy one and want to make sure I know what I am buying.

thanks

Go to Jamie's site.

Here are some bad pics of mine, tubing is oval on frame and forks.

Tange made 83 Laserlite serial #

Brake bridge, the flat one

Only pic I have of the frame, the front one is a laser

I am looking at one at the moment, has oval tubing top & bottom and the serial number is on the BB and reads:

83 045347

Same dropouts as the last photo you posted.

Thanks

That Serial # doesn't sound like a Kuwahara serial #. Here is a pic of the drop outs, kz1 is farthest, kz83 laser is closest.

I haven't seen a Kuwahara serial like that either, especially from '83. Kuwahara Serials seems to change a bit when the frames changed in 84 though. Do you have a pic of the frame you're looking at, or is that confidential

Jaimes '84 NOS LaserLite

Here's NSRJamies perfect '83 Laser

Here's Frostie's sweeeet '83 Laser

Hope you guys don't mind I used your bikes as examples

Ringer, where's that KZ83 you were putting together a while back?

Hey Quicksilver, what kind of forks are on this bike?? The early LaserLites will have fully oval forks like the top and down tube of the forks....but there are some guys in the UK who swear they have different forks. My LaserLite is from Australia, my old friend gave it to me. Its impossible to tell the models from the serial number I think....just the year and month it was produced and the lot number and if Tange or Kuwahara welded it up. Post some pictures of it for us so we can try to help out, or you can Email them to me.

That great news you may have a LaserLite, you will love the bike. I know I sure love mine.
Ringer
GT, mines a Survivor or Nova frame. As far as I can tell the only difference between my '85 and Jamie's '84 is the brake bridge is flat on his and round on mine.

Its done, and waiting to be photographed. I'm still hoping to find a NOS black tech 3 lever. You know how wanting perfection gets. I may have my existing tech 3's re-annodized to save on the waiting time, if I can find someone who doesn't want to charge me $100 for it.
RYAN-GT3540
Quick, Jamie's the authority on the K bikes. Let's see the pics.

Ringer, I hear you on the tech 3, it took me forever to find one that was in decent condition (not too many scratches), but not NOS. I have a NOS tech 4 if you're interested....cheap.

Yeah, I have 3, one pair with the usual wear on the ends and 1 NOS rear. I can be patient. Thanks for the offer though

This is the only photo i can get, i only assumed it was a laserlite by the oval tubing and dropouts

Cool Tange made kuwahara Frame. I've seen a mate having that in Singapore n is a member here too.The frame is stamped T2x xxxx.So r these still consider Laserlite?

Here's some pics of the laserlite fork before I sold away my near NOS unstamped "Kuwahara" or "K" logo 1983' laserlite f&f .Then I found a used stamped "K" logo and "Kuwahara" which I believe those r leftover 1983' laserlites f&f and were stamped T4A xxx7 using an 83' oval tubing fork and marketed out as 1984 laserlites.Correct me if I am wrong as I do not have sufficient info but based on my own research.

Here's the near NOS 83' laserlite fork

A close up pic of the flat spot on the oval tubing

Oval tubing as mentioned in the eariler post

Jamie, can I ask u if the 83' oval tubing fork the same as the Tange TRX fork which is selling as an upgrade ?

What do you think Jamie?

Yo,Where's Jamie??? Does anyone else knows?
NSR Jamie
Sorry, I don't know......I'm not really an expert. I just love Kuwahara's and made the site from info I collected over a couple of years cause there were no Kuwahara sites around. I have learned some things and am still learning.

Sorry, can't say for sure about the TRX forks, but by looking at some small pictures they look to be the same. Throw some Kuwahara stickers on them and nobody would probably know. Those forks you posted above are like mine exactly on my KZ-83

Possibly, LaserLites came with Flat brake bridges though, but maybe this was something of a transistional phase like those very early KZ-1 bikes with those early KE-1 type rear drop outs and sometimes forks. It was definetely manufactured in August 1982 as the serial number states but could have been sold as an 83 or who knows,....could even be another bike? I still am confused about those later model Non-loop tail Nova bikes, the survivors and then I hear things about Thrashers, KY thrashers, KYZ's, 2.5's and other stuff in different parts of the world.

Thanks for the info Jamie, It has got me stuffed as to what it is, I might start another thread just asking for an ID.
