Just dug this blast from the past out...anyone remember these? The Troxel Comet.
The decal reads...
Total Weight - 274 grams/9.7 oz.
Seat - High Strength Nylon
Engineered for minimum flex
Post - 7/8" x 14" 4140 Chromoly
Austempered for super strength
Insertion mark to prevent frame damage
ULTRA-LIGHT SUPER STRONG
Anyone care to guess a date on this? Obviously much better than the UNI system cause you can't break this. Anyone run one back in the day?

A few years later than the original UNI, and yes, they did break.

That thing looks positively fragile, the way the seat hangs over the post a mile and a half in the front. I never had a problem breaking Uni's so much, in terms of catastrophic failure...they'd just come unglued from the post almost instantly.

Wrong. These were garbage.

By the way, Uni Seats came out in the 1970s. Troxel copies came out in the 1980s.

those Troxel Comets were garbage they'd snap crack chip and spin with just a few hard trail rides - dated around 81 for that style - they also made the earlier SE stamped one's but the saddle shape was more MX style and the post was more centered under the middle of the seat (dated around 79/80)

Cool...as far as breaking, I was referring to the post compared to the uni. I never broke a uni seat, only the post. I never seen one of these on a bike BITD, maybe that is why?
