I spoke with Jay at Rockford again this year and when I asked him if he was working on any projects, he replied:

'I have a couple of bikes that I'd like to complete. I have everything I need. I just need to get down to the basement and build them.'

Personally, I hope Jay reads this and is able to complete his bikes and post them. It's been far too long since he posted pics of his Hyper. The VBMX membership has more than doubled since then! We need some new stuff to drool over Jay....c'mon!

Kerry
way to grind a guy KIW LOL.
Keep_It_Warm
Ha ha ha....this is a feel-good thread Kerry....just trying to apply a little pressure in hopes of seeing more awesome builds like those above.
Kerry
Yeah I know cousin. Jay is a great guy whom I've asked advice from a million times as well as questions etc. I met him a few years ago & he's cool as ice.
ol'phart
but of course - he's a Jersey native - JAY is way cool peeps !
Randy
Even though I dispise aero seats....

Early on in this community you had some cranky guy from Arizona building the best 70's bikes and you had Jay building the creme de la creme 80's bikes. Jay's bikes are pure sweetness, he leaves no doubt what era he loves....perfection.

Those last two are cool as beans.
Mr. Smith
They look gorgeous ! But to me survivors is what it's all about. Why....cause they look authentic.

Not to mention the idea of having 3 g's in something you only look at doesn't add up, especially in todays economy.

I noticed the prices have dropped since I got into this hobby 4 yrs. ago. You keep restoring them and I'll keep restifing them !
Keep_It_Warm
I understand your comments Mr Smith, but I don't believe that anything in the pics above was "restored". I am pretty sure that it is all original condition.
Dirty
Jay's bikes have always been top notch.
Kerry
actually im pretty sure Jay restored/repowdered most of that.
Mr. Smith
There is NO question in my mind that what is pictured above is top notch. To me the whole idea is to find vintage bmx/ freestyle bikes at an economical price. Whether it's flea markets, yard sales, and or of course thrift stores.

Everything I own has been riden at one time or another...including my only full restoration. Each scratch tells a story.
Mr. Smith
The white Patterson isn't going to go too far with out the chain ! I'm only kidding. Peace ROB
tznutts
I agree 100%... bring them on Jay!

The memebrship has doubled and so have all the people looking for parts. I think Jay had a bit of luxury getting his hands on stuff at a time when it was cheaper and more easily available.

As for the 'survivors are better' argument.
It just doesn't wash I'm afraid.
Restored/OG/Survivours... they all have their place.
Tracer Finn
Hey Guys....Tracer Finn here..I owe alot to Jay and have never met him......A ways back someone on vintageBMX found me and hooked me up with him.He had built a replica of my Screaming Yellow CW phase one from 84.He sent me 2 pictures...One to sign and one for me.I framed it next to the Bicycles and Dirt "profile" I had from April '84 on that bike....The darn thing was soooo clean I drooled on it for a year. Now I signed up on VINTAGE BMX...I have found a Phase one...and am building a replica of Jay's replica of my bike !!!! LOL
Everything I have ever done has stemmed from by BMX life and have always appreciated it.Knowing there are tons of BMX heads out there makes me feel more sane....RIDE on.Tracer
ol'phart
so your sayin' we should start calling him Jay Stalker - he tracked you down and sent you pics, ay ? (sounds kinda creepy) LOL

just kidding of course Jay's mad passionate and intense - as it shows in his builds - but he's also one of the most humble and chillest cats I ever happened to meet in this little hobby of ours' (second only to that of our fellow bro-dawg from the great white north - the one and only Mr.Marc Tardiff) wish they were around more, but its cool that their still around when needed - if you were lucky to have gotten to know them well enough when they were ....

just incase they happen past this thread --- what up niggus ?

Jay's black Changa is my all time favorite race bike resto.
