I love this bike (I really dig the early MCS stuff). I would have bid on it if I didn't already have practically the same bike, only in chrome. Was the winner a member here? So cool...

how early is that one?
Its the only other MCS I have seen with the rear dropouts like that besides mine.. but the front on mine looks like a free agent..

This one I would guess to be around a 78/79/80. They changed the decals in 81. The stems went to 4 bolts by late 80/early 81, and I think they lost the gussets by 82 or so. Got a picture of yours?

Whoa, that was a deal. Actually, I may watch that one as there's a chance it will be relisted. You know, 0 feedback winning bidder...
agentheinz
Whoa, that was a double post!

Yeah, i've seen just the stems alone bring over $100 ! Whoever built that bike BITD sure did it right...
Kastanman
Yep that was a deal. I have one of those frames, but the gussets are trashed and their's a dent in the seat stay.

20.00 plus shipping if anyone wants it.

Great score and price !

Oh man that brings back memories... I had a bike nearly identical to that, but mine was all red. MCS Magnum frame, circa 1980, Tange TRX Forks, Z-Rims with ACS hubs, snake belly tires, aluminum bars and seatpost, and Sugino Maxy Cross cranks. This bike is beautiful just the way it is in survivor status.

I wasn't the newbie bidder but I did end up with it. I plan to just leave it as is and clean it up a little. I already flipped the seat guts so the seat is now centered.
rumblerdave
Good score Doug! That bike is absolutely beautiful. Like I said above, I would have been all over that bike if I didn't have that model Magnum already.

Well, that and the fact that theyr'e too small for me to ride...
DAN
Hmmm. Wonder why there was no contact to the second place bidder if the first one flaked?
Todzilla
What year did MCS go to this headtube decal?

Oldtimer1980s
Try as I might, I have never found what "MCS" meant. What does the initials mean? Anyone know?

Oldtimer1980's

Originally, it stood for Moto Cross South- possibly the coolest BMX name ever.

Dave is correct, however it was only for a very short time.
The orginal owners of MCS decided to close the entire business shortly after we started having them made. We only had 10 frames done by Motocross South. That was at the end of 1976.
My dad and Rick Connery thought this was a bad idea so they got together and formed Moto Cycle Specialies (MCS).
Dave is correct again, the name was just to cool to let go. It was just sort of renamed.
Hope this helps a little.

Awesome to see you posting here, Greg! And thanks for the info, I'd love to know more info about the early days of MCS. Always loved MCS products, and seeing the MCS riders as a kid here in Florida.

Wow, it's really sad to see such a great survivor parted out after making it through all those years...

especially a build that was as good as that one...
