Just thought I would share this score. I took this as a trade in w/a kid that comes into our store for a "bigger 24" bike. He was happy and so was I

HOLY CRAP YOU SCORED!

You better have given that kid a total titanium setup!

As if the FMF bars weren't enuff, the Redline stem (I'll assume that it is one), Redline frame and fork, but the humdinger is that PLME SEATPOST CLAMP....... FRICKIN RARE DUDE!

CONFREAKINGRADULATIONS.

And should you ever want to part with that part consider me first in line!

I love these stories.......Did you know he had it or did he just show up one day with it ?

When he told me he had an old Redline I assumed it was some old 90`s Taiwan junker. I was shocked when he brought this in. I was just going to offer him a small trade in but when he brought it in I told him I would trade him for a new S/E cruiser. I felt guilty offering him any less. He even came back with the ashtabula cranks that came w/it later

Best score so far, anybody wanna take this on?? Lol.

It's pretty amazing someone would bring in a 30 year old bike as a trade in. Huge find! Congrats!

Here's what I know...... it seems that seatpost clamp was introduced right around the time of the first CBR test ride on BMXA and shown in their new parts feature around 1977.

It was very pricey for the time because of it's elaborate design (which may have led to the nickname 'mousetrap' after the board game) & considering that bmx specific seatpost clamp mfgrs were few if any, this clamp would really stand out in a crowd.

It may have been the first manifestation of the 2 piece spc as it seems to have preceeded the PL-1, CBR, DiaCompe and the Addicks clamps amongst others. (I'm starting to sound like a freaking nerd, huh?)

Apparently 1-2yrs later Laguna seems to either have bought out the remaining inventory or had a contract with PLME to add their clamps to their lineup as the clamp can be seen with a Laguna sticker in their parts distribution catalog of that time.

I'm sure that there are a few around probably in the hands of Dan Goins or Geoff Sebastian but I'm aware of only one other in collector's hands- Rod Miles has it on his DG.

Thxz for the info on the seatpost clamp. I had no idea it was that rare? Anybody have info about the bars I know they are FMF but thats about it. year, model? I am planning on restoring bike I don`t think the bars are to correct. Wheels I was thinking Tuff 1`s or maybe 7b`s?

good score!

The bars look to be the tall FMF Gold Bars circa 77.

I have one of the clamps because I ran one back in the day.
I love the way they look but the very small allen bolts that hold it together will snap if you apply anything more than a slight bit of torque.
Back in the day I had to have broken bolts removed from mine a couple of times.
Very quirky design that didn't really hold the seatpost very tightly.

Those bars are definitely FMF. Myself and a few of my buddies all had them on our bikes for a while, it was cool at the time but they're so tall we didn't run them for very long. I've even got a couple of pics of mine and a couple friends bikes with them, I'll have to dig them up and post them. BTW - this was back in 1976...

the seat post clamp is the first thing I noticed! that bike is so friggin' era correct survivor rad!!! the bars are perfect, there is really only one year for FMF anything, 76-77.

TYhanks, I don't feel so bad know

Geoff, give me a call, you have the #. I may just have to pull my Squareback out.

I'll give you a call but please don't pull your "squareback"
out while I'm on the phone.

I have heard the FMF bars are pretty rare but I might be interested in a trade or cash for items I need to finish a couple other bikes I am working on. Anyone interested I need 7B rims, DG forks, Motomag 1`s Taking offers. Seatpost clamp is pretty much spoken for. Rest of the bike I plan to rebuild. rlp1201@netscape.com
