Dave,

Thanks for the update on Vic, glad to hear he is on the mend. I guess that smack talking can no longer include being "bullet proof". Sounds like he is in good spirits though which is great news.

Just found this site. Wow these were some fun days. I raced at the Cool Tool track twice. The national that year and the state race they had. Great Track and if i recall they had a pond out back with some lake jumping going on after the races.

I see a lot of the old Tri-City Boys on here. Sparky you were older but we all ran those old Rotterdam Bike Shop Colors back in the day and your Dad ran the gate at a lot of the races. He was one of the best at starting the race calling out "riders ready...wheels against the gate....Watch The Lights"

Bobby I. was a great guy and will never forget the 1986 state champ race at Tri-City and it was his 16th b-day....his dad threw him a big party after the 1st day (2 motos got in and the rain came and the 3rd set and mains were run on the 2nd day) Anyway I recall Bobby I going up on the tower with the microphone and sayin thank you to his dad for the party really cool.

Always looked up to the ice man back in the day and banging bars with Dennis and Paul Izzy in the state races. Lots of good racing back then.

Nice to see you on here Roger. Welcome. That championship race aqt tri city means a lot to me too. I dont know if you knew this, but Bobby's dad hired a stripper for his 16th B-day party on that saturday night. She kept it PG-13 though lol. I still have the video from that race. The trophies were huge with a big wooden cut out of New York State on top. We had a jumping contest after the race on sunday over the doubles on the second straight, and Bobby crashed a bunch of times lol. Also, Louis Delfino won a GT bmx bike during the raffle, and raced with it the next year. Tom Thomas (RIP) was the announcer and did an AWESOME job, and this was the first year that Kerry Zinzar's dad Bill Zinzar took over as state commisioner after Ray Greco quit, and i think he did a great job. He came to my brother Al and I several times asking how we thought things should be handled with the older classes andalso went to many parents to ask advice on how to handle the younger classes. He wanted to listen to us rather then just do it the way it already was. There was the whole Bike Box team, and Eagle Snacks and that was the start of Tim Strelechi and Justin Lefredo.
I know this thread is about Cool Tool BMX, which was an awesome track, but the 86 NY championship was a great race for me. Racing Russ Gershon and my older brother Al and winning the race and the year was cool. Thanks for bringing up the great memories Roger.

I recall that party very well and Louis Delfino was at that party as well. Always liked racing with Lou at Jockey Hill. Tom Thomas (his kid had the nick name of red hot) Great Announcer and a really good person. Bill did a good job with the track and the NBL and we all met so many good folks that helped out week to week. Our whole family was in the sport and helped out at every track we went to. I think the Rice's worked at the Cool Tool track back in the day and they did a good job keeping things moving at that national.

Dennis I have the news paper article on that 1986 race at Tri City. It is kicking around and i will post it later this week. I also have a video kicking around with us in the early 90's at Bingo and Paul Izzy is in 1st and yard sales it in the last turn and takes you and I out. funny shot as I had no where to go but you tried to go low and Pual basicly gives you a hug and stops you in your tracks.

I will get that article up in a few days for you.

Roger,
Ha Ha That is awesome. I had a lot of respect for Paul Isbester because he was a great rider and always wanted to progress forward. We rode together a lot in the 80's and he had a Great practice track on his property. He had a lot of respect for his competitors, so even though he wouldnt back down and was aggresive and fast, he was never dirty. Id love to see the news paper article and the video if you can get it up here. I also remember having some great times at the Tricity track (both locations) with you and your family. It seemed like you all were always there. Although I have had a great time up till i quit racing three years ago, those times back then were the best times in bmx for me. Thanks for the memories.
Dennis

D James, please tell Victor Dennis Neubauer says hello. I am glad to hear he is doing well.

Here I am taking a stroll down memory lane about the Cool Tool track and I see not only my fathers name get mentioned...but someone that actually remembered my nick name. It's pretty awesome to know that my dad's announcing had such an impact that he is still remembered for it. I am pretty sure my dad also took over as State Commissioner after Bill Zinzar... Bill's name sounds super familiar.

If you guys have those videos laying around it would be very cool of you to post it to youtube or something.

It's been a long time since I heard my dad's voice, and now that I have my own son racing it'd be cool to show him what racing was like BITD. I am also back racing at the local ABA tracks and am volunteering pretty heavily at the new indoor ABA track (Grippen Park BMX) here in Endicott, NY. The entire reason my son is even racing (and hence why I am here) is because of a huge poster of me winning a race at Cool Tool BMX....funny how things work out.

Also, Eagle Snacks....damn, I can still remember the salty goodness. We had car loads of those along with New York Seltzer.

I just bought an old GT yesterday (trying to relive wasted youth I guess) and was doing a little surfing to find parts and what have you when I came across this thread. I was thinking about CoolTool yesterday. Far out!

I never raced there, but I lived very close by (Parma Center Rd. and 259) and always wanted to. I spent all my weekends out of town and raced for a couple of years at the Onondaga Lake - Longbranch Park track (I think it was run by Wayne's bicycles).

Anyhow, I read the first three pages and saw Chris Ranson's name come up. I knew him pretty well when we were kids. I think my sister hung around with him in high school. Anyhow, cool site guys. Thanks for the flashback!

Also I'm sure that somewhere between Page 10 (how far I made it reading) and here, someone probably posted this, but if I recall correctly, the track was on Draffin Rd. Between Parma Center and Burritt Rd.

Don't know if any of you guys are dirt track car racing guys, but a little bit of interesting info, Maynard Troyer also lived about 5 miles (or less) from this track.
