I have not been out to the track because I have a LIFE!!
You know wife, kids, house, bills, etc.....
But just remember when I do show up who spanked that azzz the last time out there.

Wake up please...we all got family, jobs, bills all that stuff. I hardly would call beating me by a bike length in one moto! I know you and Vic have a little girl rule "no passing in the last turn", so my win in the second moto is "unofficial", but I race to the line.
All smack talking aside, I am having a blast on both bikes and I will be clearing those doubles before the snow flies. Would just love to see more old dudes on the gate.
PS man they are getting lights. Should be fun racing in the dark

This is good humor. I think this where I should insert the line "lets race our bikes, not our mouths." I do like your Monday Night Brawl idea. I will definitely propose something like this at Upstate. Seems like everybody here is talkin an awful lot of smack. I am working on my gates and pedal manuals, thanks for the tip, the cardio is fine. The height joke was not funny though...I am just trying to get a full gate going and find some good honest competition

One more thought before I move on, DJ is the only guy I know who can pull out the bike once a year air up the tires and show up at almost any track and throw it down all while looking buttery smooth. Don't make that cat mad because if he gets serious and really starts riding regularly someone is in trouble.

Did I mention the major contract on the table should DJ consider racing full time? My industry sources are telling me that Land "O" Lakes has offered full factory sponsorship, I'm talking BMX, 4X, Downhill, Crit, Road, you name it. The dude is that smooth! To sweetin the the deal they even offered to sponsor his wifes soccer team. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but this has to be a sports first, husband and wife competing in two seperate sports with full factory sponsorship?
All I can say is I hope his ABA license expires soon!

The Monday Night Brawl Andrew came up with is very cool.
Brilliant idea for sure.
Open wheel 20" or 24". No points. Simply FUN!
Kind of an invitational deal. We basically race our friends or invite someone.
Some say if got a little competitive, but hey, it's fun and it's BMX. Not knitting.
When it's a full gate of guys mostly 30- 45 years olds,
everyone's around 200- 250 lbs,
close to same speed and fairly close in ability,
it's a real blast to race or to watch.
Word got out about it in the "South" Los Angeles and "North" Orange County regions of So. Cal.
Stu Thomsen said he was going to race once with us, then was a no show.
The fastest guy to race with us, I invited, was Barry Nilson.
He's 41 and rides like a very skilled 19-27 Expert. Everyone expected him to win.
But he's very cool and made it fun by jumping and X-ing Up on most of the doubles.

I'm a Vintage BMX newbi here (First post!!!) I'd like to tell you my story quickly.
My Dad, sister and I raced EBA from Early 1982, through as near as I can figure somewhere around 1989 I guess. My Dad ran 35 and over cruiser, I started as a beginnner at 13, and ended my racing career in the 17-18 Crusier class. My sister ran powder puff. We all raced Redline F/F's. I had a 500a, then a 600a, and my favorite was my PL24. My dad also had a PL24 and my sister ran a 102b with 1 3/8's on it.
We helped to run the Amherst BMX track on Transit Road with the Ray and Carol Markwart (sp?). We also were very active helping at Niagara BMX with the Robbins family and at Southtowns BMX with the Engasser family. My mom scored the races at all all of the tracks, while we raced.
We ran the full EBA schedule each week duing the summer, Niagara Friday nights, Amherst Saturdays, and Southtowns on Sunday. Then all of the Challenge Cups for Double and Triple points in Syracuse (Onondaga, Fulton), Rochester (Eagle), Penn (Titusville and Erie) as well as Southern Ontario in Welland, Stony Creek, Milton. Then there was the biggies every year, the Can Am at the Niagara Falls Convention Center and the Fall and Spring Indoor races at the Fairgrounds in Syracuse.
When I quit racing, I sold my PL for 250 bucks (which looking back at it was probably one of the the dumbest things I have ever done, but at the time.......you know how it goes?) Luckly, my dad held onto his PL, and I have had my sisters 102b in my barn for the past 20 plus years.
So, recently my dad was preparing to sell his house and had a handy man working for him, fixing up a few things. The guy saw my dad's PL and offered him 50 bucks for it. Luckly my dad called me and asked if I wanted it before he said yes the the handyman. At first I said no, but then kind of talked through my thoughts with him and then said, yes, I'll take it. (BEST decision I have ever made)
So, I held on to it for a month or two and then one day decided to start looking into restoring the bike, so I did an internet search. And to my surprise, I found this site and many, many more. Needless to say, I am totally upsessed with retro / Old School BMX now. I had NO idea this world existed, four months ago.
Now, I have finished the restore on the PL and LOVE it more then I did when I had one 25 plus years ago, and have now started a complete restor on the 102b. I can't get enough of BMX again in my life. I spend every free second looking at old photos on bikes, searching E-bay for parts and reading the posts here at Vintage BMX.
So, the reason (actually two reasons) for this long post is to;
One, get in touch with the folks at Upstate BMX because I am thinking that I might like to try to run next summer (if at 40+ and 200+ pounds my body says its ok?).
And Two, to see if any old EBA riders are out there and to talk about the old days, if they want.
Thanks for listening........

Hey upstate, thanks for the reply. I checked out your website. I see that you are running until Thanksgiving. Originally I was thinking I would come out next summer, but if you are running for another month or two, I might try it sooner. I would like to come out on a Monday and try practice once or twice to see if I have any skills left at all (and if I have any endurance after sitting behind a desk for the past 12 years and in front of my HD-TV everynight).
Is there any charge for Monday night practice? And do I need an ABA license to practice? I would actually like to ome out this Monday, but the biggest issue I have right now, is that I only have an open face helmet, and have NO luck at all trying to buy an Old School JT mouth Guard off e-bay. I keep getting out bid, on the very few that I have seen. So even if I wanted to run Monday, I wouldn't have a mouth guard by then.......

I remember whitey and dave james, I never really talked with them, but I remember watching them race. I think they might have been two or three years older then me at the time, so I never ran against them as far as I can remember. Did you live in Buffalo or Rochester, invisible? I was living in Cheektowaga as a kid, but now live near Batavia, after a five years in Syracuse.
I did check out the old pic's on this thread, a few months ago, before I started posting. It was real cool to see the photos of Kevin Robins and Janine Hoyt. My sister is still friends with Dawn Robbins, and I still think she talks wit the Hoyts now and then.
As for my photo's, as cool as it worked out that my dad had the PL24, the down side is that I only have one photo left of me racing. I had a photo album with hundreds of photos, my eba cards and other memories in it, but for whatever reason, when he was moving my dad decided to throw the album out!!!!!!! I was, and stilll am, really bummed about that. But given a choice between the two I am much happier to have an almost perfect PL24 to ride and love......

Stu,
They are not doing practice on Monday nights during the fall. Typically, you have an hour to practice before racing starts. I will let Brian or Steph get back to regarding the license and helmet requirements they are the track operators.
It will hurt but in a good kind of way, the kind that will keep you coming back for more. Hope to see you out there sometime.

We do not run Monday practices during school. You can come and practice before the race if you would like. We have about 1 hour of practice before the race. There would be no charge for the first time and after that it would be 2.00 for practice.

First and most importantly, please make sure everyone's an ABA member guys. Other then that, have at it. Run it like an open class. He=ck, call it tye "Reunion Open" No pints in open calsses like usual. Sounds like you guys are getting a lot of interest and I know Upstate will do a good job with it.
