Those Pines pics are pretty touching to me also. That place changed my life in a way. On any given day you could go there and you were sure to see some mullets. I have a VCR tape from a day there with a bunch of dudes. Whitey, did you ever get busy with a chic in between the jumps at the pines?
whitey
No comment. Its a good thing those trees can't talk........

KB - we certainly had some great times back there. Remember when you guys raided Rog's old clothes? That was some funny stuff. And yes there were a few of us who sported the "mullet". Alot of good riders graced that place. You should post a couple pics up here from your trails........

Whitey,

What a great link. I read threw the entire thing the other night. I definitely have some fond memories of Cool Tool and might even be able to dig out some random pics. Only rode the pines with you guys a few times but everytime I ride my road bike by there on Marsh Rd. I think back to the days. I think I last ran into you at one of those Farmall MTB races in Fairport a number of years back. I see the prices some of these old skool bikes are fetching these days and wish I had kept the Vector and the Torker. Well just bought a Redline Cruiser last night online. Going to give it a whirl again out at the new track in Newark. I'll post more when I have time.

ET?? What??? Dude I havent talked to you in FOREVER....how are things? We still laugh about "traveling with the Gil Tegg's". We had some great times back then. When I go home and see the family I always drive by the Pines and think back. I walked back there a few times but you can't really tell anything was there.

Dude the crosscountry mountain biking stuff was HARD! Couldn't replace BMX, probably why I made a comeback in 1998. I still miss racing but hate to travel. If you can avoid clipping in, do it! Nothing like beating guys in disco slippers....hahahaha. Sorry Andrew and Johnny, I just had too.

Post some pics or throw down some good stories. Who was it that broke their tailbone at Cool-Tool? Literally broke his a.........

Andrew did you pick a bike yet??

DJ! Where you AT??
Kelly B
I pass by the pines a couple times every year and think and say something about them every time. Of coarse riding the jumps is the best memory but every so often I can't help but think about the neighbor lady that freaked out on me because I was taking a leak in the bushes (I thought I was hidden). Just rambling on about the pines and contributing to the thread.
I remember racing at Cool tool a couple times (we lived a few hours away). One time at a national. I saw Brian Patterson and at the time he was my fav. I also remember Pistol Pete and he had a bright orange front wheel. I think it was the same race that I saw a kid nose hack a double and sheer his front forks off and got messed up bad. Before one of my races I lost one of my new Axo gloves and didn't realize it until I was on the gate.
At a local I remember racing chuck Northrup and he didn't like me very much after the first moto but later on (a couple years later) at the pines we got along great. I guess that is one of the examples that I don't really care to race anymore (since 1991). I think the racing competion changes alot of people and just ripping around I have met so many great people (just my opinion).
estbmxny
Whitey,

It has been a while. What are you doing down in CT? Yea, traveling with Gil Sr and Jr. was a trip. Last I heard Sr. still owns the gas station up on Brooks and I had heard Jr. was racing cars. Seems natural. I seem to recall someone breaking their arse at Cool Tool, but I can remember who it was. I still have a bump on my shoulder from stacking it hard on the big table at Southpark, just before the last Cool Tool national. I remember they did not cancel my open class registration so I tried giving it a go with a separated shoulder. Did not work and that was pretty much it for my BMX career. Sad.

Hey, I think I still have that BMX Plus that we both managed to get our mugs in at Akron Derby Downs. You were doing a bit better in your pic, I was just getting mopped up by Mikey King, of course he mopped up everyone that year in 16x. I will see if I can dig it up along with some photos. Take care.

yo!
pick a bike? u mean lil mans jam?

Ocean got a new bike-greg hill got wind of his bike getting jacked, and shiz you not-he calls me and asks my address,...3 days later a 18" redline shows up for ocean..kinda sick. KINDA!
anyways,so im putting together a team for COMMISSARY my shops, and GHP is gonna be the frame sponsor..so,i will have a kit avail soon for everyone...more than likely grassroots style,..frame/uniform package deal for wholesale or whatever...just to get us all back on the track.
i cant believe all the coverage and stuff im seeing in the sports section about the olympic trials...dang man mikey day...MURDERED it...
my money is on donny robinson for the 'coaches pick' unless of course huggybear or joe robbins or dave cracker williams is back..lol..

whitey
No a bike for me to beat you on....hahaha. That's awesome Ocean got hooked up by Greg Hill....GREG HILL! How cool is that.

I could rock me a GHP....all white. Frame, fork, rims. Like a white out. No clips for me though....I didn't build up my calves all these years for nothing.......

DR was flying at the trials but Day keep schooling him down the 3rd straight. Pretty sweet!
JohnnyJohnson OMAS DirtSlinger
Invisibleman and I are gonna try out our cruisers tonight at Bellflower for the 1st time.

My dad and I were at the press tent by the finish line at the Olymic event.

Mike Day was phenominal.
Donny Robinson was doing great, but cased twice in his last race.
The young guy, Steven Cisar was definately looking as fast as Day and Robinson,
but a second moto crash messed up his chances.
whitey
Johnny - Nice! Good luck with the two four's tonight. Pimp Invisible for me just to keep him honest....hahahha. Remember his gates are terrible so snap & move.

I hope DR gets in with the coaches pick. I think with Day, Bennett, and DR we can win the gold. I think Kitner can do well but I think she is a long shot for gold. That track looks like so much fun....although I know I would kill myself on it....hahaha.

I got to come out an visit you guys....

DJ!! Where you AT??

Whitey,

Any tips? Weather permiting going to give it a whirl again Saturday night out in Newark. Stopped by the track the other day. Damn the jumps are big, I don't need a Southpark flashback, going to try and keep the wheels on the ground as much as possible. Hopefully the 24 in wheels will help. Wish me luck bro.

Drew,

When you coming home?
Eric and I want to get a Old School Cool-Tool class together.
You need to bring the 24" and leave them clip shoes in Cali.

JJ - Im sure the track is WAY gnarly. Im still living in the 90's when I had big bolts and wasn't scared to jump anything....hahaha.

Rog and Mr Lee are definately 2 of the coolest dad's. I know Rog drove me all over the country for years while I slept. Alot of big wins and accomplishments because of him. Thanks dad!!

Eric - 1. get a snap cause DJ will cut you off 2. Go REALLY fast 3. Don't jump the table out of turn 2 at South Park 4. Pick up for EVERYTHING 5. If you see a red huffy on the gate lookout.......hahaha.
Just ride and have fun, that's what its all about at our age. GOOD LUCK!

Well DJ got the snap both motos. I suspect he was sandbagging a bit in practice cause once it was for real he was off like a shot. Unfortunately he only got to stick around for two motos. Round one went to DJ, Round two went to me with a nice pass in the last turn. I wanna rematch. Would love to see a red Huffy show up on the gate with us.

You do not want any parts of the Red Huffy!
If Whitey shows up you will be stuck in 3rd all night long.
I will tuck in for 2nd place and ride around in Whitey’s draft. HaHaHaHa!!!
No sand bagging in practice. I kept waiting for the horns, not good when your racing ABA.
NBL is in my blood. Also Whitey taught me how to do starts so LOOK OUT!!
Fun times had by all.
I am still waiting on my I.M. jersey.

Brian,

You and Steph are doing a great job. The track was in great shape this past weekend despite all of the rain. I know I have said it once or twice before, Rome was not built in a day. I honestly don't think the rocks are all that bad. Thanks for helping me get back in the game.

Eric

I know the rocks are not that bad, I just do not like them.... mad.gif ..grrrrrr. I have seen some really nice tracks out in AZ and that is what I wish to some day have. The only problem is they do not get the torrential rains for 4 days strait to wash away the track down there. It could have been worse, at least the hills are hard for the most part. One good thing is I got rid of a lot of the small rocks with the storms. The only problem is all the big ones are starting to show and pop out more. Hey at least we got rid of the pond in turn 1.... good2.gif see ya next week and you are welcome!!!

I was out of Watertown with the Bike Shop. So Can Am (Lafargville, home track) was close, Fulton, Syracuse, Niagara, and a few others. In 82, I think it was the first time I raced Onondaga, I would have been 11. I stayed in that area until the fall of 87 (15 or 16x). I had a bunch of pics but they all got destroyed. I did manage to find a few from a Syracuse indoor race, nothing great though. In fact, one of the few trophies I have left is from the 'Niagara Internation Series, 1986-15x. I'm Jon LaBouf, I raced with about 4 others out of Watertown.
I remember Waynes vividly-went to a few freestyle shows there-always had a lot to look at-the cases of parts, wheels hanging, rows of framesets....
I can't tell you how much I'd love to see a video-I would literally pay..
and oh yea, that's a great pic. Those doubles are hard to forget.
mdurg
Hey Jon your name sounds familiar. Some of the people from Watertown I remember were Al Davis and Brent(?) Van Brocklin. I raced Onondaga from about 81-86 or so... great times. Yeah those doubles were it. There are a bunch of pics in this thread from Onondaga. I know it's 35+ pages long but if you hit the options-print topic, it will all go into one LONG page including all the pics. I know what you mean about destroyed pics, my friend Tom brought over a ton of them that got waterlogged. They were ruined and he was the only one of us who had a real 35MM SLR camera back then. Kodak disc cameras sucked!

Here's a link to another BB that has some Onondaga stuff posted by Jeff Crolick. He was an Onondaga local and I think he's about your age. Some other guys I can think of that might be around your age are PJ Henriques and Dave Armstrong.

old school pics

Oh yeah I still have the Haro '86 tour poster. Think I'm going to get it mounted and framed.

This is my fav pic from Onondaga. I'm on the right.

Hey man, I have pushed a broom a couple of times up there. No shovel work, I am afraid I may do more harm than good. If I lived closer I could/would do more. Not sure if there is some smack talk going on here or what?

It has really been hit or miss. We had 4 on the gate for the State Qualifyer race last weekend. Typically it has been three at normal races. I had to ride my 20" for the first time Wednesday, no other cruisers. Would love to see more although that first turn is tricky with 2 side by side. I won't be out there this weekend, camping nor the following Sat due to the state qualifiers in the S. Tier.

wow those are cool pics. Now I'm pretty motivated to get pics I KNOW my sister has-but she doesn't share my enthusiasm and is still in NY-long way from Denver.
Thanks for posting some cool pics-I'll get what's left of mine someday..
Also, how old are you guys? If you're talking about a 40 cruiser class, I might be a little younger and maybe we never matched up. I just turned 37.
Also, I made some decent (average) EBA stickers to throw on my riders-I have extras since you couldn't make just one-If you want some, pm me your address and I'll send 'em out. That's for anybody who held a EBA license at any point biggrin.gif

What does Dave know, he has only been out to the track once, with a bike anyways. Come on out mang, we need more old timers on the gate. No flat pedals allowed, bring your disco shoes or moon boots.

Had another dad show up without his bike the other night...suppossedly races too, I don't know what is up with that. I am ready to throw down anytime, any where, 24" or 20"
