"Is that Yogi Berra in the yellow shirt posing in front of the trailer?" Yup! No, it was some old, rich guy we stopped to visit on our way to Florida one year. Mr. Silloway knows a lot of old, rich people. We camped at one end of an island for a week...just us kids! Not a good idea.....

Mr. Lee
No applause, Dave Marchal & Kevin L. are the MEN at that track. I was just happy I did not crash or cramp up..
Don't sleep on Southtowns cruiser races.
We are all waiting for Vic Wilson to show up, D.M. & K.L. have been putting in work
My money is on Dave Marchal to win the holeshot competition.
Kevin what was going on, on the gate before the last race?????
Andy where are my shirts? Can a brother get a sponsorship?

DJ looked good out there for not racing in the last year. Next time the BMX Pro from Canada thinks it's funny to give me a couple of shoves before the gate drops I'm going to drop him. I don't find it too amusing to have someone who I barely know play games like that on the gate especially being clipped in. Of course if Dave M. or DJ did it, it would be OK because we're all friends.

Mark Chase!
I didn't realize you were on here! Excellent!
Now it'll be a little easier to keep in touch with you.
I'm glad to see you're still racing.
It sure was cool running into you at the track a couple of years ago.
Hows the Wifie and daughter?
After I did those gate starts with you, I figured I'd give it a shot when I got back up here, at the Fairbanks track. I guess it worked out well, but I haven't been on a track since.
My brother Mike will be up for a visit this summer, and I think we'll try it again.
I have to watch my back, tho. Lower back, you know...
I'm gonna try to make it down next summer, so I hope to run into you when I get there.
The pic on pg 14 of you and I on the first straight is in 85, and the other one with you is in 86.
This is a great thread, isn't it? I just wish I had more race pics to share.
Great to see you on here, Sparky!

Iceman, Invisibleman1, You guys knew Bobby Iovinella??
Did anyone post any racing pics of him?? I went to college with him and we were great friends. We called him "BMX Bobby" and he used to ride his bike on campus 24/7. I attended his wake and there was his bike leaned right up against his casket. He was definitely taken too soon and I miss him. I'm just glad I had a chance to speak to him about a week before he passed. He was a great guy. I would love to see pics of him racing.

There is a pic of Bobby racing a few pages back on this thread. I will post some more....
Bobby was a heluva guy. One of the best people you will ever meet. His funeral is one of the worst days of my life. I know he used to tear up the Brockport campus in his red Mustang too........
You got to bring those tapes. I wanna see those Can-Am races. Jicha was on fire that weekend, I think he won all three classes. DJ on that day-glo orange bike was flying too. Too bad Pat G kept cutting the inside of turn 1 and wiped him out.
I remember we used to make sure our bikes were spotless for those races.........
GT_Pro_Performer
Jun 14 2007, 08:28 AM
Bobby tore up Brockport in every way!!!! Back when ESPN2 used to show BMX racing, I saw him in one of the races. Not sure which one and it's a shame I didn't have DVR at the time!!! It's been over 7 years that he's been gone. RIP Bobby
invisibleman1
Jun 14 2007, 01:37 PM
GT who are you??
whitey
Jun 15 2007, 06:07 AM
That ESPN race might have been Orlando. I was probably on there with him. It was very rare that the two of us weren't in the main together.
I spent a few summers traveling with him to the NBL nationals. Too many funny stories and great memories. The East Coast nationals were the best because Mr Iovinella would find these great Italian restaurants to eat at. It would be Rog, Dan and me, Mr. I, Bobby, Gina, & Maria and we would eat and laugh till they would kick us out. I'm surprised we could race the next day.
GT, did you know him from Brockport or from back home?

my wife went to school with bob..seen him race when he was young..i never raced him he was a couple years younger then me..never a dull moment for sure with bobby around..and yes the funeral was a very sad day..his accident was right in front of my mother inlaws house..rip brother..

I went to Brockport with Bobby. My best friend and roommate Rich Wall introduced me to him BITD and we all became very tight. He wrestled there (he was a sick wrestler) and I knew all the wrestlers too, so we all hung out together with a bunch of my frat brothers. We got into PLENTY of trouble trust me!!!! Bobby was wild child!!!! I remember the day I met him in his dorm room I saw his bike...I thought it was odd because BMX had kind of "died off" and everybody was into Mountain bikes. That is why we always called him "BMX BOBBY"
About two weeks before he died we spoke on the phone and were going to get together and go out up in Saratoga....and that was the last time I talked to him. I am thankful I stayed in touch after college.

Duck - Im sure we probably met while you were at Brockport. I used to come up and hang with Bobby and his roomates. Those wrestlers were crazy. I remember they would all wait around for bed check and then climb out their windows to go drink.
Remember when Bobby had that cast on his wrist for almost a year?? He had to plug into the wall at night to help the bones heal. We took the mustang out one night and pretty much burned all the tread off the tires. Like 3-4 months after he got it the tires were shot......
Alot of good stuff....
